JOB DESCRIPTION:
In this role the Regulatory Counsel will play a pivotal role in our mission by enabling the client to drive new initiatives while navigating an evolving regulatory landscape. This includes staying on top of developments, proactively assessing risk, and providing practical guidance to stakeholders. The role will report to Managing Regulatory Counsel and work closely with other members of the Legal and Compliance team and leaders across the organization to influence strategy, enhance compliance systems, and help the company scale. - Partner with our consumer finance licensing team to analyze license requirements, implement compliance initiatives, and respond to examinations.
- Respond to external inquiries, including third-party diligence, member or press questions, consumer litigation, and regulatory or law enforcement requests.
- Proactively raise and address risks related to strategic initiatives and partnerships.
- Design and manage cross-functional regulatory compliance efforts with a focus in the areas of consumer protection, consumer finance, and insurance.
- Educate stakeholders in a simple, easy to understand way about regulatory updates and issues and innovate on ways to foster a culture of compliance and learning.
- Make assertive recommendations on when and how to take smart risks to achieve the business’s goals.
- Manage a high volume of work while being able to maintain perspective and prioritize the work according to company goals.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- 4+ years of experience in consumer finance or insurance law, with subject matter expertise in at least some of the following areas: insurance regulation, FCRA, ECOA, GLBA, EFTA, UDAAP, mortgage lending, personal lending, fintech banking, and state licensing.
- Experience advising fintechs or insuretechs or other financial services or insurance clients as an attorney on regulatory, compliance, or litigation matters (in house or at a law firm or consultancy).
- Comfort with thinking creatively and making smart, assertive recommendations in areas of ambiguity.
- A demonstrated ability to thrive in a fast-paced, innovative environment, and to take general guidance and run with it.
- J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school with excellent academic credentials. Must be an active, licensed attorney in good standing of the bar in at least one US state jurisdiction.
COMPENSATION:
