Your Impact:

As a Radiation Control Technician 3 (RCT3) at Los Alamos National Laboratory, you'll uphold the highest standards of radiological safety. Your expertise will directly contribute to the safe and efficient execution of complex operations, protecting personnel, the public, and the environment.


What You'll Do:

  • Provide radiological support in assigned areas, including workplace surveillance and data analysis.
  • Offer operational health physics support in assigned facility, function, or area.
  • Handle high-hazard radiological jobs.
  • Ensure compliance with radiation protection activities, procedures, and 10CFR835.
  • Review radiological work for proper controls and compliance.
  • Assist and mentor employees in radiation monitoring, contamination control, emergency response, and other areas.
  • Interface with emergency personnel or respond directly to emergencies involving radiation.
  • Assume field management responsibility and direct other technicians when needed.


Work Environment:

  • Moderate physical demands, including lifting and wearing protective equipment.
  • May involve outdoor work and irregular hours.


What You'll Need:

Skills and Abilities:

  • Extensive knowledge of radiation protection principles and procedures.
  • Strong decision-making and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Willingness to work outdoors and outside regular hours.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma and two-to-four years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Additional training, certification, and/or education may be desirable.

Level:

  • Skilled/fully proficient.
  • Applies knowledge of the job and Laboratory policies to complete a wide range of tasks.
  • Provides technical solutions to difficult problems.
  • Works with little or no direct supervision.
