Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Project planning, scheduling, and budgeting

  • Ensure project budgets are set up and entered accurately into the companies ERP program and other systems, including Spectrum, Bid2Win, and Smartsheets, that capture all pertinent data and information about projects.
  • Implement and utilize labor and production scheduled contained in the original estimate to ensure projects are built on time and within or better than budget.
  • Control project budgets and manage expenses; develop accurate and complete invoices each month for open projects, and authorize payment on invoices sent to the company by vendors.
  • Coordinate any deviations on project budget, schedule, or quantities with Construction Group Lead, client, and project partners as needed.
  • Help problem solve any changes in a project to maintain project schedule, budget and quality.
  • Develop monthly WIP reporting, and track project-specific data, which includes but are not limited to retainage, profitability, equipment costs, overtime, and other information of interest.

Contract and compliance management

  • Lead all contract management tasks related to assigned projects,which include but are not limited to insurance, bonding, change orders, and reporting.
  • Provide technical support for change order preparation and negotiations.
  • Ensure that all job paperwork and client, engineer, or permit reports are submitted on time.
  • Coordinating post-award contract meetings, such as post-award kickoff meetings (as applicable), preconstruction conferences, (informal or formal) partnering meetings, schedule acceptance meeting, design review meetings (as applicable), and final inspections.
  • Maintain and update SOW and preconstruction documents, and meet contract obligations by developing relationships with reliable contractors and vendors.

Subcontractor Management

  • Manage any subcontract relationships and ensure compliance with and reporting for set-aside and/or minority requirements.
  • Establish effective, professional relationships with partners and vendors that support business construction functions.
  • Engage with government inspectors, clients, and property owners to offer updates and resolve problems or complaints.
  • Identify and share opportunities for improved practices or operating efficiencies.
  • Review and approve subcontractor material quantities and process their invoices.
  • Verify the accuracy of receipts, tickets, and packing lists related to construction crew purchases for projects.

Material and Project Team Management

  • Coordinate with superintendents, foreman, and construction group lead in weekly planning meetings to plan the upcoming weeks work for project crews.
  • Ensure superintendents enter all labor, equipment hours, completed quantities and other activities onsite in order that cost and production can be analyzed and reported.
  • Help estimating and project managers review pre-final contract drawings and specifications (including technical RFPs) with respect to constructability and compatibility with actual field conditions.
  • Respond efficiently and effectively to work delays, emergencies, and other project disruptions to keep the construction team on schedule for the project.
  • Assist construction crews with technical problem solving on projects as they arise.

Technical management and quality control

  • Visiting construction sites to monitor progress and solicit input from the Engineering Technician/Quality Assurance (ET/QA) representatives, review CQC reports and attend QC meetings. Recommend necessary action to assure contractor's quality control program is provided in accordance with the contract requirements and that three phases of quality control are being utilized.
  • Based on technical knowledge and coordination with designer and construction contractor, providing technical solutions to unforeseen problems during construction. This may include independently reviewing field changes that have no impact on function of the facility or scope, cost or schedule of the contract.
  • Conduct and document quality assurance and safety inspections throughout the construction process, ensuring that the work environment is acceptable and that tools and equipment are in good working condition. Ensure that site specific, client specific, and company safety protocols are being followed.
  • Participate in post-project assessments and reviews with the crew and Construction Group Lead.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Five or more years of progressively responsible field construction experience required, seven years is preferrable.
  • Attention to detail, and the ability to manage complicated construction projects.
  • Significant ability to communicate successfully and interact well with others.
  • Exceptional time management skills and ability to work successfully on multiple tasks.
  • Positive attitude, professional demeanor, and good judgment
