Floater Litigation Legal Assistant


Job Summary


The Floater Litigation Legal Assistant provides comprehensive legal and administrative support across different litigation teams. This role involves assisting with document preparation, case management, scheduling, and administrative duties. As a “floater,” the assistant adapts to varying team needs, maintaining flexibility to assist with tasks as required across multiple practice areas.


Key Responsibilities


Document Management: Prepare, edit, and format legal documents, including pleadings, briefs, and discovery materials.

Case File Organization: Maintain and organize case files, both electronically and in hard copy, ensuring all documents are easily accessible.

Court Filings: Coordinate and file documents with courts, including electronic filing in federal and state courts.

Client Communication: Communicate professionally with clients and opposing counsel as needed, keeping attorneys informed of updates.

Scheduling and Calendaring: Manage attorneys’ calendars, schedule court appearances, meetings, and depositions, and coordinate travel arrangements as necessary.

Time Entry and Billing Support: Assist with time entry and billing processes, ensuring accurate recording of hours and expenses.

Research Support: Conduct legal research as needed, including summarizing case law, statutes, and relevant legal documents.

Document Review and Proofreading: Review and proofread documents for accuracy, consistency, and compliance with firm and court standards.

Team Collaboration: Provide backup support across litigation teams during peak periods, staff absences, or special projects.

Qualifications

Technical Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and legal research tools. Familiarity with case management software and electronic court filing systems.
