REPORTS TO: Principal Investigator



The position is available for a project that investigates the sleep-dependent mechanisms of reducing Alzheimer's disease progression by photobiomodulation with near-infrared light in the animal models of Alzheimer's disease. All duties will be carried out under the guidance of the principal investigator. In carrying out responsibilities, the individual must promote a productive work environment, high morale, and a high level of cooperation among team members in order to ensure successful completion of projects in a timely manner. The research will be performed in the Sleep Laboratory at the VA Boston Healthcare System (VABHS) West Roxbury Campus. VABHS maintains the largest research program in the Veterans Health Administration, which includes research on a variety of topics involving neuroanatomy, neurophysiology, neural development, and neurodegeneration.



ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Use optogenetic, fiber photometry, electrophysiology, and other state-of-art neuroscience tools to investigate the role of photobiomodulation applied during specific sleep stages in the pathophysiology of Alzheimer's disease.
  • Drafts research materials (manuscripts, reports, abstracts) and presentations for professional meetings, e.g., PowerPoint presentations and posters.
  • Participates in planning and carrying out the project.
  • Participates in team meetings as needed.
  • Participates in preparing data for analysis and analyzing the data.


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Has a strong background in neurobiology, ideally in sleep research.
  • Experience in stereotaxic surgery, immunohistochemistry/histology, optogenetics, and mouse behavioral phenotyping is desirable. Experience in brain electrophysiology is a plus.

This job operates in a professional office and laboratory environment.


Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position, and the hours of work and days are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. The expected start date is flexible. The initial appointment will be for one year, with a possible renewal thereafter. The salary for this position will be as per the NIH guidelines.


Travel

Travel may be required for participating in research conferences.


Work Authorization/Security Clearance

An employee in this position must complete all appropriate background checks at the time of hire and periodic reappointment.


Selective Service
