San Francisco, California, United States The Job Plugs Full time
About the Organization:

At Family & Child Empowerment Services (FACES) SF, we envision a future where all families in San Francisco have the resources they need to live, grow, and thrive. Based on decades of experience and informed by research, our whole-family, whole-child model encompasses four interconnected areas: early childhood development (ages 0-5), elementary-age enrichment (TK-6th grade), family support, and workforce development.

We intentionally focus on San Francisco families who face economic and educational barriers due to systemic inequities, particularly racism and classism. To drive system-level change, we collaborate and advocate alongside nonprofits, community members, SFUSD, and government agencies to forge stronger, more equitable family support systems across the city.

Where We Work: Our work spans four main sites and nearly 40 home-based childcare providers throughout San Francisco:
  • Bayview (Whitney Young Circle): Home to our early childhood program and extended-day and camp programs serving 80 children aged 0-5 and 50-75 children aged 6-12.
  • Haight-Ashbury (Page & Masonic): Location of our administrative offices and the Masonic early childhood program with four classrooms.
  • Hayes Valley (Buchanan & Haight): Features two infant and toddler classrooms.
  • Visitacion Valley (1099 Sunnydale): Offers workforce development and other community services.
Our Values:
  • Centering Families: Developing trusting and authentic partnerships and holding families' strengths, needs, and experience at the center of our work.
  • Building Inclusive Communities: Cultivating vibrant communities, where people from diverse backgrounds build strong connections and feel a sense of belonging.
  • Always Learning: Enhancing our model based on program data, research, and community input to ensure impactful and quality services for families.
Our Legacy: FACES SF is an institution with over 10 years of serving San Francisco's most disadvantaged children and families. We carry forward the combined legacies of Florence Crittenton Services and the Whitney Young Child Development Center:
  • Florence Crittenton Services: Established in 1882, it evolved from providing support to single mothers to a broad array of services including childcare, job development, and family services.
  • Whitney Young Child Development Center: Founded in 1953 and later named in honor of Whitney Young in 1977, it has long been recognized for its excellent childcare and comprehensive educational programs.
Key Responsibilities of the Development Director:
  • Fundraising Strategy Development: Spearhead the creation and execution of a comprehensive fundraising plan. This includes securing major gifts, engaging corporate and foundation donors, and managing planned giving alongside special event initiatives.
  • Donor Relationships: Take charge of identifying, cultivating, and nurturing relationships with major gift prospects, corporate sponsors, and foundation supporters to secure funding.
  • Event Management: Plan and execute compelling special events that effectively engage donors and generate significant funds.
  • Team Leadership: Lead and mentor a team of fundraising professionals. Set clear goals and monitor team performance to ensure fundraising objectives are met or exceeded. Provide ongoing training and constructive feedback.
  • Communications Collaboration: Collaborate closely with the Communications team to develop and implement effective donor communication strategies and marketing materials. This includes crafting targeted appeals and creating donor recognition programs that enhance engagement and contributions.
  • Strategic Alignment with Leadership: Work in partnership with the Board of Directors and the CEO to align fundraising strategies with the organization's mission and strategic goals. Present fundraising plans and progress reports to the Board.
  • Performance Monitoring: Regularly analyze fundraising data to assess effectiveness and adapt strategies as necessary. Focus on tracking donor engagement, retention rates, and revenue streams to optimize fundraising efforts.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in nonprofit management, fundraising, business administration, or related field (Master's degree preferred)
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in nonprofit fundraising, development, or related field. The candidate must be a strategic thinker, with the ability to identify challenges and opportunities, and develop creative solutions to meet fundraising goals. They must be able to think critically and make data-driven decisions that help the organization achieve its objectives.
  • The candidate must have strong leadership and management skills, with experience managing a team of fundraising professionals. This requires the ability to set goals and expectations, motivate team members, and provide guidance and support as needed.
  • The candidate must be able to work collaboratively with colleagues, Board members, and volunteers to achieve fundraising goals. This requires excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships and work effectively with diverse groups of people.
  • Must have a deep commitment to the mission and values of the organization. This means that they must understand and believe in the organization's purpose and be passionate about positively impacting the community. A strong sense.
