THE ROLE

  • This hourly position requires approximately 19 hours per week or up to 1000 hours annually, whichever comes first. It is a non-benefitted, unclassified, at-will role.
  • The City of Modesto is currently seeking part-time Service and Maintenance Aides to join their team. This role involves providing unskilled/semi-skilled labor and maintenance support across various city departments.
  • Service and Maintenance Aides may work in divisions such as parks, streets, forestry, graffiti abatement, building services, and water operations.
  • Flexibility is key as employees must be open to working weekends, nights, holidays, and split shifts as needed.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE

  • Applicants will be evaluated based on their submitted applications. Resumes will not be initially reviewed due to the high volume of applications received.
  • All qualified applicants will proceed to the next phase, which includes a one-way interview through Spark Hire on a monthly basis.
  • Human Resources may adjust the testing process as necessary to best serve the city's requirements.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Knowledge of: Safe work practices, tools, materials, and equipment used in general maintenance tasks.
  • Ability to: Follow instructions, perform physically demanding tasks, work in confined spaces, and communicate effectively.
  • Applicants should have a high school diploma or GED equivalent and a valid California driver's license.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Mobility: Keyboard use, sitting for extended periods, occasional bending.
  • Lifting: Up to 25 pounds occasionally.
  • Vision: Regular use for reading and close work.
  • Dexterity: Writing and use of hand tools.
  • Hearing/Talking: Regular communication in person and on the phone.
  • Environmental: Exposure to typical office noise.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Office environment with occasional remote work and rare travel requirements.
  • Overtime and weekend work may be necessary at times.
  • No benefits accompany this position.
