Exactly 90 years ago, Burt Perry opened the doors to his eponymous store in beautiful Provincetown, at the very tip of Cape Cod, MA.

Over the years, successive owners of the business have built on his legacy to create the much-loved, award-winning wine business it is today.


PERRY'S PALM SPRINGS
An entire continent, almost 3000 miles, separates the communities of Provincetown and Palm Springs.

Yet, despite their distance, different geographies, architecture and climates, they both share striking similarities, and a large community that moves back and forth between the two towns.

In a world that often feels demanding and uncertain, both Provincetown and Palm Springs have, for years, nurtured a simmering spirit of escapism from the world outside, the pursuit of the good life and a wink of mischief.

In 2024 we are excited to expand our mission of making life's special moments just that bit more joyful, to a new community, many miles away, yet one that already feels like home; Palm Springs.


THE ROLE

Exceptional service is a key pillar of our business; providing expertise, advice, going above and beyond, and creating a friendly, welcoming environment is a key way we stand out in our market.

With this in mind, and as the Perry's business expands its horizons and opens in California, we are looking for an exceptional individual to manage, lead and shape the future of the business in our new home of Palm Springs, and to play a central role in creating a holistic customer-facing offering on both sides of the country.

During the low season (May-October) this person will run the day-to-day management of the business, whilst being in constant contact with the owners as they run the business in Provincetown.

Come the high season (November-April), they will work with the business owners together as a team to drive the Palm Springs business through its busiest time of year.


We are looking to recruit a superstar manager to help us launch Palm Springs, and to be a central player in defining & shaping the future of the Perry's business.

To fit the bill you will need to be:

A wine lover:
Advising and de-mystifying wine is a key role we play for our customers. You will have a passion for wine, and how it elevates food and occasions.

Ideally you will have previous knowledge of the category, however for the right individual we do also offer wine education qualifications as part of the role.


A people person:

Our business revolves around our customers; offering them fantastic advice and service, going above and beyond their expectations and offering an environment they want to come back to time and again.


A self-starter and a team player: For part of the year you will be leading the business in Palm Springs, but you will also be working closely with the wider team, both in Provincetown and in Palm Springs.

You will be someone who can see 'over the horizon' to anticipate issues before they arise, be comfortable making your own, informed, decisions, and someone who can see the big picture of the business whilst also being very detail oriented.


A lover of detail:
The old saying "retail is detail" still rings true. You will need to be obsessed with detail, from inventories to pricing to the in-store environment.

A commercial thinker:

You will have a good grasp of commercials, how to drive better profits and commercial outcomes for the business.

We are looking for someone who truly acts like an owner, like this is their business and who actively looks for opportunities to grow the Perry's business.


A creative:

You will be able to demonstrate great creative thinking that brings our business, the world of wine, and Palm Springs to life.

This would specifically impact our instore and merchandising environment, and our presence online on social media.


Someone with a 'finger on the pulse': You will have a natural interest in what's going on in the wider world, especially around trends and consumer behavior in wine, food and retail.


Someone who can roll up their sleeves: You will be someone who is happy to easily move from stocking shelves, to breaking down cases, to creating social media strategies to making strategic portfolio choices.


KEY JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Run 'front of house'
You will be responsible for the store, and how it's presented to our customers during our opening hours. This will range from cleaning, to stocking, to advising our customers and creating a truly welcoming environment for them.

  • Run 'back of house'

You will be responsible for inventory management, ensuring we have adequate stock levels, managing incoming and outgoing deliveries, and planning and managing the schedule for the business in Palm Springs.

You will constantly be looking for ways to grow and optimize the Perry's business.

  • Help shape the portfolio

Working in conjunction with the business owners, you will create and nurture excellent relationships with our distributor partners to ensure portfolio optimization for the local market.


  • Driving brand awareness

You will heavily influence our social media strategy and creative origination, and work hand-in-hand with the team in Provincetown to ensure a holistic voice for the business from coast to coast.

QUALIFICATIONS &

EXPERIENCE:

  • You are passionate about the wine and spirits industry. You can demonstrate an innate curiosity and knowledge of the world of wine. Official qualifications (e.g. Somm / WSET) are a definite bonus, but we will offer structured wine education and training for the right individual.
  • Considerable experience in customer service and customerfacing roles.
  • Experience of managing social media and creating content.
