Duties:

  • Inspect and repair historic steam and diesel locomotives and railroad cars
  • Troubleshoot and repair mechanical problems
  • Understand and maintain various systems
  • Ensure compliance with applicable standards

Requirements:

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen
  • Pass background investigation and drug test
  • Hold a valid State Driver's License
  • Wear a uniform and adhere to NPS standards
  • Be willing to work on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime
  • Complete a probationary period
  • Possess Asbestos and Lead Abatement certificates
  • Travel occasionally for work
  • Obtain a government charge card for travel

Qualifications:

  • Ability to work independently without supervision
  • Interpret instructions and blueprints
  • Use and maintain tools and equipment
  • Knowledge of equipment assembly, repair, etc.
  • Technical practices and trouble shooting skills
  • Ability to perform complex tasks in heavy equipment repair

Volunteer Experience: Paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work, is valuable and can enhance job qualifications.


Education: Education cannot substitute for experience in Wage Grade (WG) positions.
