The Editorial Intern contributes to ONC's mission of providing nonpartisan news, opinions, and policy solutions by completing essential tasks for the Editorial Team at ONC.

The Editorial Team is one of the last sets of eyes on everything ONC produces, including but not limited to books, policy proposals, solutions, op-eds, and newsletters.

Editorial interns collaborate with our Core Content Writers, as well as the rest of the organization, and will keep in constant communication with the Editorial Team Lead and Managing Editor about the status of current projects and deadlines.

This intern may have the opportunity to learn how to operate the backend of our website to review external writer's submissions and approve them.

A content-related writing sample must be submitted with the application.


This position is remote, with work primarily conducted over Zoom and Slack, so applicants must be comfortable coordinating in a remote environment and are expected to maintain a high level of communication.

This intern must commit to at least the end of the Summer semester (August 30th, However, many people choose to extend their internship past the amount of time they initially committed to, provided their performance meets the required standards.

Responsibilities

:

Edit all written content to maintain grammatical integrity for the ONC website and mobile app

Ensure ONC's commitment to nonpartisanship, ideological diversity, and civil debate is reflected in all published work.

Participate in civil dialogue with conservative, progressive, and moderate writers focused on our 8 policy areas:

Governance, Economics, Infrastructure, Healthcare, Foreign Policy and Defense, Justice and Public Safety, Social Issues, and Science, Environment and Technology

Qualifications:
Qualifications

This role would be particularly good for those working towards a degree in English or Literature, Political Science, Journalism, Communications, and/or related fields

Exceptional writing skills are required (English)

Proficient verbal communication/speaking skills are a plus

High attention to detail

Prior editing experience preferred, specifically with AP style

Responsive, consistent, and effective communicator, even during conflict

Ability to work remotely and on their own schedule in order to make deadlines

Google Workspace experience preferred

Ability to attend the weekly Organization-Wide meetings

Ability to attend weekly Editorial Team meetings

Must be authorized to intern in the U.S.
