This position's primary responsibility is to assist the Supervisor for Material Handling/Recycling in prioritizing, scheduling, and overseeing the completion of work order requests and special event arrangements.
This position also performs various duties to meet the changing needs of the University.Primary Responsibilities
Coordinate the recycling efforts of the University Community.
Assist the Supervisor Material Handler/Recycler with prioritizing, scheduling and overseeing the completion of work order request and pickups related to the recycling effort.
Provides leadership and makes timely decisions on job sites.Work schedule including days and hours are subject to change depending on the needs of the University and the Facilities Management, Operations & Maintenance Departments.
Report security concerns such as unlocked doors and unauthorized personnel in buildings to the University Police and Management. Report any problems needed the attention of other Operations & Maintenance units to management or Work Control.Assist with planning and performing major relocation of individuals and departments to different offices and/or buildings.
Respond as required by supervisory personnel to emergencies during and after regular work hours. Also assist with absentee coverage.
Pick up trash and recyclable items from buildings. Separate and shred documents, load recyclable cans, bottles, glass in appropriate area, crush and bail cardboard. Move recyclable products to outside recycling center once a week.
Assist with window cleaning. Assist with the delivery of supplies. Check recycling containers for cleanliness and condition, wash containers as necessary and reports damaged containers to management.
Monitor productivity of crew members and offers appropriate instructions and advice to ensure quality performance. Report potential employee problems to management. Ensure that work areas and recycling areas within buildings are kept clean and in order.
Discuss work assignments with the Supervisor of Material Handling/Recycling at the beginning of each shift to mutually plan and prioritize work loads which includes proper equipment and any appropriate instruction and advice to ensure quality performance.
Qualifications
High school diploma/GED with 1 year of related experience; valid driver's license required, CDL a plus;
Must be able to physically perform job duties with frequent medium heavy to maximum exertion;
Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs or more on a regular basis; Must be able to utilize hand trucks, dollies, forklift, moving equipment, hand/power tools, large motor vehicles and other related equipment.
