The Medicaid & CHIP Services (MCS) department at the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) is looking for highly qualified candidates to join our Fall Fellowship Program.

MCS offers healthcare services to low-income children, families, pregnant women, former foster care youth, individuals with disabilities, and seniors. The goal of the fellows will be to provide quality and cost-effective services to Texans.

We are seeking motivated graduate students or recent master's program graduates who excel at solving complex problems with innovative solutions and are passionate about making a positive impact on people's lives.

With various opportunities available within MCS for fellows, you can customize your fellowship experience based on your interests while gaining a comprehensive understanding of the Texas Medicaid program.

We aim to create a work environment that boosts employee engagement and performance. As a fellow, you will be part of a structured program alongside other fellows. The program kicks off with an orientation focusing on our services, operational processes, and divisional structure.

In addition to having a supervisor, you will interact with MCS leadership, receive mentorship, engage in cross-divisional projects, contribute to your team, and work on meaningful assignments.

There are different areas within MCS where fellows may be assigned, such as:

  • Chief Advisory Team: Supports the State Medicaid Director and enhances communication across division areas.
  • Quality: Manages quality assurance tools and other performance improvement initiatives.
  • Policy: Offers policy guidance to MCS leadership, Managed Care Organizations, and stakeholders.
  • Operations: Handles various operational responsibilities through different areas.
  • Medical Director: Provides clinical consultation and oversees service utilization.
