The Legal Division's mission is to provide professional, high-quality legal representation to the Corporation Commission in the performance of its powers and duties. Matters handled are Commission dockets, federal regulatory dockets, litigation, and administrative and special projects.

Job Duties:

You will provide support to the Legal Division attorneys (including the preparation and analysis of complex legal documents); research legal issues, state and federal statutes, rules, and administrative and judicial case law; manage case information and documents: preparing and tracking data requests/interrogatories and responses; assisting in the preparation of testimony; ensuring timely filing of legal documents in administrative and litigation dockets; providing support during administrative hearings, civil litigation, and open meetings of the Commission; drafting memoranda, briefs and other legal documents and editing and cite-checking the same; coordinating all Commission rulemakings and monitoring for conformity to the requirements of the Administrative Procedures Act, Office of the Secretary of State and the Corporation Commission; provides paralegal support for Commission workshops. Assist with collation, collection, and distribution of records pursuant to public records requests.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs): Qualified candidates with the ability to Research - case law, administrative decisions, rules, and regulations issued by local, state, federal courts, commissions, and agencies using computerized legal databases, the Internet, and legal publications; provide research assistance to Commission Staff. Manage cases and rulemakings - calendar deadlines; track data responses; organize and maintain discovery, pleadings, briefs, and other documents; attend workshops, administrative and civil hearings, and public meetings of the Commission. Write - data requests, memoranda, and pleadings; edit, cite check, and prepare testimony, pleadings, and briefs for final printing and filing; reports on the status of Commission-related litigation and other matters. Consult with attorneys and staff - about research projects, administrative cases, litigation cases, rulemaking, and workshops. Respond to public records requests - search for responsive materials using manual and electronic systems; process for attorney review; and ensure appropriate delivery to the requestor.
