UTHealth Houston is looking for a Senior Specialist in Systems and Reporting to work in our Sponsored Projects Administration area. This position reports to the Senior Director of eRA Data and Reporting in our SPA department. This employee is responsible for developing, configuring, maintaining, and supporting computer systems. Functions include enterprise operations, website management, implementation, and help desk operations by providing technical support and reports for research administrative offices. Work is performed independently.

Specifically, this position will oversee and manage the ongoing maintenance of UTHealth START modules(Proposal Tracking, Proposal Development, Award Tracking, Financial Tracking, Subawards, Entities, and Conflict Of Interest), develop a solid understanding of the modules from both technical and functional perspectives, configure and establish workflow logic, routing, and custom forms within the application and provide technical support to the appropriate institutional research offices as needed.

You will work a hybrid schedule, and your office will be in our University Center Tower in the Texas Medical Center. We prefer candidates with at least a bachelor's degree. We seek people with experience supporting large-scale enterprise software, as thousands of end users access our START modules. You must be flexible, as we may ask this employee to assist with implementations that expand the resource and increase its usage.

Position Summary:

Designs, develops and implements new or enhanced business processes supporting new or enhanced information systems and technology. Provides senior-level business expertise supporting business process changes for information systems projects. Identifies opportunities for business process improvement and initiates projects to make improvements with or without deploying information technology. Leads one or more application implementation team(s).

Position Key Accountabilities:
  • Responsible for the quality and integrity of the UTHealth START system.
  • Daily responsibility for operations requests to support the research enterprise by answering emails regarding system issues, report requests, and questions about system functionality. This requires troubleshooting, report development, file organization, testing, and user training.
  • Develop and maintain reports for the research administration offices and outside entities.
  • Manage ongoing maintenance of the UTHealth START system. Includes validating, troubleshooting, and prioritizing issues for multiple modules.
  • Work with vendor to fix system issues and create technical solutions, allowing business offices to complete their work effectively and efficiently.
  • Develop a solid understanding of UTHealth START modules from both technical and functional perspectives.
  • Configure and establish workflow logic, routing, and custom forms within the UTHealth application. Includes HTML, java scripting, and complex system design.
  • Create test scripts, and test strategies and execute system and regression tests for new fixes and regression testing for upgrades and patch maintenance cycles.
  • Serve as the liaison between business owners, end users, and vendors.
  • Design, document, and recommend appropriate system configurations.
  • Develop business design documentation for software enhancements, modifications, and interfaces.
  • Department communication regarding system issues, upgrades, and maintenance.
  • Record and track all issues that arise during implementation or post-production.
  • Contribute to project planning efforts by providing estimates and input into tasks.
  • Work with business owners to define, document, and prioritize functional requirements.
  • Update Sponsors and Sub-award entities.
  • Maintain department website.
  • Other duties as assigned
Certification/Skills:

Prefer CPA and/or other business-related certifications

Minimum Education:

Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Management Information Systems, a relevant business-related field (such as Human Resources or Accounting), or related experience in lieu of education.

Minimum Experience:

Eight (8) years of related experience. Two (2) years of experience must be in an application being used or implemented such as PeopleSoft, Oracle, WorkDay, SAP, JD Edwards, Lawson, etc. May substitute required experience with equivalent years of education beyond the minimum education requirement.

Physical Requirements:

Exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently and/or a negligible amount constantly to move objects.

Residency Requirement:
