This role involves full performance cooking using food service principles, practices, and methods for food preparation activities while gaining familiarity with correctional/youth security procedures and techniques.

Key Responsibilities

  • Implement food service principles, practices, and methods for food preparation activities to ensure safety and sanitary standards.
  • Train inmate food service workers on operating commercial kitchen equipment and food preparation techniques.
  • Supervise inmates/youth food service workers in kitchen assignments and maintain a positive working relationship.
  • Ensure proper food handling, cooking, and storage practices among inmates/youth food service workers.
  • Prepare meals and maintain control of kitchen tools and equipment.
  • Enforce institution and department rules to uphold discipline, security, and hygiene standards.
  • Provide guidance and maintain positive relationships with youth/inmate food service workers.
  • Complete reports, maintain records, and attend training courses as required.

Job Requirements

Requirements for Correctional Officer/Youth Rehab Food Service Specialist I
Applicants must have:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Six months of experience in institutional or commercial cooking and baking
  • Knowledge of safety, storage, and sanitation standards for food items
  • Skills in narrative report writing
  • Valid Driver's License (not suspended, revoked, cancelled, or disqualified)

Additional Requirements for DSCYF

  • Minimum age of 21 years
