***The Grants Coordinator will collaborate with the Director of Institutional Giving to generate approximately $9M in revenue from institutional partners each year. This position sits within the Fund Development team and will be responsible for generating prospects, key messaging, and clearly articulating the mission and programs of Breakthrough to funders.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES / FUNCTIONS

  • Manage the writing, preparation, and submission process of grant proposals, reports, budgets and other grant requirements to meet designated goals
  • Monitor deadlines to ensure the timely submission of grants
  • Ensure accurate data and relevant statistics in grant proposals update external data
  • Implement process for ongoing collaboration with program departments to ensure accurate and compelling descriptions of programming efforts, goals, and impact.
  • Maintain electronic and paper records related to grants, as well as grants calendars.
  • Support Breakthrough's Fund Development events including the Annual Benefit, Young Professional Board events, and other donor cultivation events
  • Contribute to strategic planning execution and organizational decisionmaking
  • Performs other duties, as requested or assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Exceptional ability in writing, storytelling, and copyediting for a wide variety of audiences
  • Demonstrated experience in crafting and executing fresh ideas
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work independently and in a group; demonstrated leadership through managing others and projects
  • General knowledge of the grant cycle: prospecting, cultivation, writing, recognition, etc.
  • Basic knowledge of CRM databases and/or project management tools; the FD team uses Salesforce, Asana, and Google for Nonprofits
  • Attention to detail, organization, and time management
  • Ability to prioritize a multifaceted and shifting workload
  • Selfstarter and critical thinker with the ability to own projects with mínimal direction and supervision
  • Curious mind with an appetite for research and continuous learning
  • Must possess and demonstrate an accurate and informed understanding of cultural competency, especially as related to youth, families, equity, and community development

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's Degree in Liberal Arts, Communications, Social Policy, or a related field is preferred; or some college or related experience with a rigorous writing component.
  • 23 years of professional writing experience; grant writing experience preferred.

SUPERVISION
Direction received from the Director of Institutional Giving. Generally, does not supervise any employees.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

Work Environment
The typical work environment is in an office in a multi-purpose facility. Noise will be moderate to high depending on activities within the multi-purpose facility.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk and/or sit; use hands and fingers to feel objects, tools or controls, reach with hands and arms; balance; stoop; regularly talk or hear.

The employee must be able to bend, stoop, pull, lift as well as have overhead extension of arms.

Must be able to stand for long periods of time; be able to lift, carry or move at least 50 pounds.

Must adhere to proper handling and lifting techniques.

Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
