Job Summary

Flagship is seeking a Building Engineer/ Maintenance Tech for a high profile property management client in Norfolk and Chesapeake. Engineer must be able to work autonomously at our site in Norfolk, VA.

2 open positions:
1 is on site 100% 40 hours per week in Norfolk
2nd role requires travel between Chesapeake and Norfolk and a company vehicle will be provided. (Valid DL and clean record required)

Summary/Objective

As a representative for our company, you will be responsible for assisting with troubleshooting, diagnostics, repairs on buildings, industrial systems, vehicles, grounds, and maintenance equipment for assigned facilities, with an emphasis on electrical maintenance and repairs.

Essential Functions:
  • Travel to multiple sites and travel to purchase necessary parts/items is required
  • Performs general building maintenance without supervision.
  • Assists in the repair and maintenance of a wide variety of pumps, valves, pneumatic controls, electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic devices. Lights and ballast replacements.
  • Trouble shoot plumbing issues and repair problems.
  • Work with cubes and furniture moves.
  • Perform minor HVAC repairs and maintenance under close supervision.
  • Assist with installation and modification of building equipment systems.
  • Troubleshoot, evaluate, and make recommendations to upgrade maintenance operations and/or implement savings opportunities.
  • Possess competent knowledge of the use and care of tools and equipment used in facility maintenance.
  • Respond immediately to emergency situations and customer concerns.
  • Inspect electrical distribution systems for safety and efficiency.
  • Assist in maintaining and operating life safety/fire systems.
  • Comply with all applicable codes, regulations, governmental agency, and Company directives as related to building operations and practice safe work habits.
  • Plans and performs work requiring a thorough knowledge of electrical/electronic and mechanical theories and principles, writing specifications, local and national electrical codes, properties of various materials, and principles of operation and application of electronic equipment.
  • Must maintain a neat appearance.
  • Continuously seeks opportunities to improve the customer experience. Follows safety and sanitation procedures with all guidelines from OSHA, Department of Public Health and Risk Management. Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge and Skills
  • Technical, vocational, or on-the-job training in electrical and HVAC or any similar combination of experience and education.
  • Possess and maintain a valid driver's license and good driving record with periodic checks.
  • Proven record of providing excellent internal and external customer service.
  • Knowledge of proper use of equipment, materials and supplies used in maintenance work.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively May be only maintenance staff member on duty during certain shifts; may be required to work extended periods of time without relief when responding to priority/emergency situations (including overtime type assignments); may require shift work and/or on call duties.
Education and Work Experience

High School Diploma or GED equivalent. 3-10 years of experience in commercial facilities and building maintenance. Have own basic hand tools and battery drill

Work Environment

The work environment includes the following elements and exposures:

Small-to-large work environment. Safety glasses required while performing certain tasks. Fast paced work environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Exposed to a combination of normal office type environments and shop environments. Regularly exposed to dust, odors, oil, fumes, and noise.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Constant use of hand when handling and fingering hand and power tools and, when handling small items such as screws, bolts, etc. Occasional keying, typing, and writing. Constant grasping, pushing, pulling, and rotating body. Frequent lifting and carrying objects more than 40 lbs.

Item weighing over 40 lbs. must be carried by two (2) people. Constant reaching across, above, and outward in work area to fix equipment. Frequent pushing and pulling objects weighing over 40 lbs. Items weighing over 40 lbs. must be push/pull by two people or with appropriate machinery. Good or correctable vision is required to safely perform all duties. Occasional standing, walking, bending, twisting, squatting, kneeling, crawling, balancing and beck usage-flexing.
