About the ISA

The ISA is a non-profit organization recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) as the World Governing Authority for the sport of Surfing. The fundamental mission of the ISA is to create a better world through Surfing by promoting, developing, and leading Surfing in all its forms through the ISA's 116 National Surfing Federations worldwide.

Membership and Development Department

The ISA Membership and Development Department consists of collaboration with 116 National Surfing Federations (NF) across 5 continents to develop the sport. The ISA aims empower dynamic member federations that are developing the sport of surfing from the grassroots to live level and improving the lives of the surfers in each nation.

The ISA Development Programs include the ISA Coaching and Instructing Program, ISA Judging and Officiating Program, and the ISA/ILS Water Safety Program. These programs are recognized as the international standard of safety, quality, and efficacy for coaches and judges around the world. They are offered as a development and economic opportunity through the ISA National Federations and network of over 90 course presenters around the world.

The ISA Membership and Development Department is aided by The ISA Source, our global hub for Surf and SUP education providing a platform for e-learning, certifications, and resources for the international community of those with an interest in developing the sport of Surfing.

Role Overview:

Coordination the ISA Membership and Development Department's administrative operations, e-learning platforms, and development projects.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Interest in sports management, international business/relations, digital content and online learning.
  • Interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe.
  • Ability to learn to utilize different digital platforms and software (Articulate/Rise360, Learning Management Systems, etc.).
  • Self-motivated with the ability to multi-task, manage priorities, and meet deadlines.
  • A passion for surfing, sport management, or international relations
  • Strong administrative and organizational skills with attention to detail

Key Learning Outcomes:

  • Sport management experience working with an International Sports Federation recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
  • International experience working with stakeholders from 116 countries.
  • Opportunity to contribute towards online content creation and e-learning on a cutting-edge educational software platform.
  • Experience in an Olympic Sport Federation in the lead up to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

PROJECTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

ISA Learning Management Software Platform – ISA Source (4-6 Hours Per Week):

  • Coordinate with ISA Development Team and appropriate experts to compile and review e-learning course content.
  • Utilize Articulate (software) to make edits and update existing E-Learning content.
  • Communicate with translators to oversee translation of course materials.
  • Upload translated materials to Learning Management System (LMS)
  • Enter and verify coach and judge data and process certifications via Learning Management System

ISA Scholarship Program (2-4 Hours Per Week):

  • Coordination of ISA Scholarship communications and wire transfers for program winners.
  • Liaise with ISA media team to draft Instagram posts and descriptions to promote content for the ISA Scholarship Program.
  • Monitor engagement letters, deadlines, and wire transfer information.
  • Coordinate with Membership and Development Department to create a survey for past scholarship winners for feedback and impact assessment.

Membership and Development Internship Project (2-4 Hours Per Week):

  • Learn key stakeholders and programs in the ISA Membership and Development Department.
  • Research and propose a key change to existing programs and/or a new idea for carry out the ISA Mission
  • Research possible grants, partners, and funding sources for proposed development project.

Additional Miscellaneous Tasks (2-4 Hours Per Week):

  • Answer email inquiries regarding the ISA Programs.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of ISA Sustainability initiatives.
  • Assist in daily operations and procedures of the ISA Membership and Development Department.
  • Participate in ISA Meetings and staff wide activities.
  • Email updates to report and summarize daily activities.
