About the Position:

Embark on a role as a Tax Manager, leading our financial strategy to optimize tax efficiency and ensure compliance with various tax reporting requirements. Experience in Canadian federal and provincial tax is highly valued for this pivotal role.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Tax Compliance Oversight: Supervise the accurate and timely filing of various tax reports and returns at federal, state, local, and international levels to ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Vendor Management: Maintain relationships with third-party firms to secure precise information for tax filings, encompassing payroll, income, and sales/use taxes.
  • Regulatory Adherence: Guarantee compliance with pertinent tax laws and regulations, including those at the federal and provincial levels in Canada, while setting up suitable accounts in relevant jurisdictions.
  • Issue Resolution: Address tax notices or inquiries from authorities, collaborating with tax auditors when necessary to manage findings and estimate liabilities.
  • Tax Advisory Services: Act as a trusted advisor to management on tax matters, offering insights into tax implications of financial and operational decisions.
  • Risk Management: Identify potential tax risks and devise proactive solutions to minimize exposure and ensure compliance with tax laws.
  • Legislative Updates: Stay abreast of tax legislative developments that could impact the business, advising on adjustments to tax strategies and practices.
  • License Maintenance: Facilitate renewals of sales tax licenses and other essential permits, ensuring ongoing compliance with regulations.
  • Problem-Solving: Effectively address practical issues with minimal supervision, adapting to situations where standardization may be limited.
  • Internal Controls: Establish and uphold internal controls and procedures to protect company assets and ensure compliance with tax regulations.
  • Audit Support: Assist in financial audits and contribute expertise in tax-related matters to various special projects as needed.
Qualifications:
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is essential; a Master's degree in Accounting, MBA, or CMA is advantageous.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5+ years of progressive experience in tax accounting, with a focus on compliance and planning; preferred experience in Manufacturing, Engineering, or Commercial Industrial industries.
  • Certificates & Licenses: CPA certification or progression towards it is preferred.
Requirements:
  • Thorough understanding of federal, state, and local tax laws and regulations.
  • Experience with Federal, multi-state, and local tax, including franchise tax and sales and use tax, is mandatory.
  • Knowledge of Canadian Federal and Provincial tax is highly desired.
  • Proficiency in tax software and financial reporting systems like SAP and Oracle.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel, including advanced functions and pivot tables.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal collaboration skills across departments.
