Job Summary:


The newly created position, Safety and Health Professional for Asphalt Materials, Inc. will be
responsible for leading the AMI EHS Implementation of processes including launch and support of a Safety Management System and other key aspects. The role will report to the Director of EHS and will be a part of the EHS leadership team. The ideal candidate would understand safety processes, systems and able to provide guidance and coaching for implementation and execution.


Essential Job Functions:


EHS Operations

• Review EHS systems and processes for to maximize implementation effectiveness and support of the EHS team and operations locations.

• Supports the implementation of safety audit process and inspections of facilities, machinery, and safety equipment to identify and correct potential hazards and to ensure compliance with safety regulations.

• Be an active member of the EHS leadership team for alignment on implementation of initiatives for improving the safety and compliance of all locations and functions.

• Improve employee understanding of environmental risks and expectations for controlling those risks through implementation of training and processes.

• Identifies and supports aligning implementation of safety supplies, personal protective equipment, and first-aid items.

Training and Coaching

• Help to develop training as required for new hires, existing employees, vendors, and contractors as defined by the safety management system.

• Provide training, support, coaching, and leadership to line management and employees so that they understand the EHS programs and how to execute them.

• Foster a collaborative environment with operations, contractors, and other functions to meet common safety objectives through implementation of improvement projects.

• Proactively develop relationships with colleagues, suppliers, stakeholders, and regulatory personnel.


Risk Identification and Management

• Identification and evaluation of risk hazards and development of measures for their control.

• Lead the improvement efforts in the implementation, and management of EHS risk reduction/management strategies (safety and health, environmental, air, water, wetlands, waste, EPCRA programs, and emergency preparedness and response).


Regulatory Compliance and Community Relations

• Maintain a working knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations.

• Remain technically current in regulatory requirements and safety and health consensus standards.

• Support plant compliance with OSHA safety regulations.

• Ensure contractor compliance by working with Regional Safety Managers and interacting between plant teams and contractors, when necessary.


Project Engineering Support

• Assists in the development of capital expenditure requests as they relate to health and safety when needed.

• Support engineering and operations projects, including risk assessments front-end loading, compliance plan oversight and development of environmental permits and other necessary documentation.

• Participate on PSSRs and or other projects when needed.


Relevant Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:



• Knowledge of federal, state, and local safety regulations, protocols, and/or procedures and the communication skills to interact effectively with all levels.

• Operational knowledge of computer software including Microsoft office suite.

• Ability to prioritize and perform multiple tasks without losing momentum while also completing all daily tasks efficiently and effectively.

• Ability to hold themselves and others accountable to high standards.

• High commitment to the development of people and processes.

• Excellent verbal and written communication.

• Demonstrated creative thinking and problem solving.

Requirements:



• Minimum BS Degree required, preferably in Industrial Safety or Industrial Hygiene.

• Minimum of 3 - 5 years related experience in the safety capacity in an industrial environment preferably within process manufacturing, petrochemical or chemical manufacturing processes (preferred but not required).

• Experience in the development of safety processes and training of individuals on the processes.

• Experience and knowledge of plant, equipment, and Six Sigma / Lean processes.

• Ability to travel 20%+ of the time.

• Ability to work a flexible schedule including additional hours and weekends as needed.

• Ability to work in extreme weather conditions and in-plant environment.

• Position requires a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.

• Must be able to pass a pre-employment background, physical and drug screen.

• This role is not eligible for visa sponsorship.
