General Summary:
The Technology Consulting Director is at the forefront of helping prospects and customers adopt Unum's digital solutions.

This position is responsible for serving as a key technical sales specialist for our digital solutions offerings, including but not limited to HR/Broker Connect (which integrates Unum offerings with leading HCM systems/Technology Platforms), Total Leave/Group Products and other offerings.


You will help develop the strategy on how to present a compelling message to our prospects and customers/brokers through consulting on platform capabilities and interactive, engaging and tailored demonstrations/system overviews, building awareness and generating opportunities.


The Technology Consulting Director will act as a strategic partner with our field sales representatives to secure new business and expanded revenue opportunities on existing customers.

The incumbent will work in close partnership with internal and external business partners, including sales representatives, customers, brokers, consultants, and technology vendors to identify client specific solutions.


Customer/Broker driven activities (approximately 80%)

  • Partner with Sales & Client Management professionals (Reps/Specialists, CMs/NCMs) to collaboratively develop the customer sales strategy, taking a leadership role on how to present our digital solutions.
  • Perform product/platform demonstrations/overviews for prospects and clients (including senior HR and HRIS professionals) as well as distributors (including brokers and their technology and leave practice leadership), leveraging expertise in Unum offerings to provide comprehensive and targeted solutions to new and existing customers
  • Act as principal point of contact for technical/platform queries (e.g. those regarding data integration, single signon, etc.) either for the sales representative or direct to the customer/broker
  • Preparing for and responding to specific client solution requests
  • Respond to miscellaneous field/producer inquiries and resolve any issues

Internal activities (approximately 20%):

  • Proactively observe, synthesize and communicate opportunities for improved product performance based upon interactions with customer HR and HRIS leaders as well as with brokers and their technology and leave practice experts. Leverage technology selling expertise and knowledge of Unum's differentiators to guide internal marketing messages and demo capabilities
  • Be the consultation expert when it comes to the broker/agent persona to help them compare the platform that meets their needs, set expectations, and create a successful experience between the ben tech platform and our brands.
  • May perform other duties as assigned

Job Specifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent required
  • Extensive Group Benefits background and the ability to understand how insurance products fit on a benefit administration platform for a success client experience preferred.
  • Ability to build a new business through partnerships with product owners and sales team; a selfstarter with a desire to learn and grow
  • Minimum of 5+ years' proven experience in a Solutions/Technology Consultanttype role in the HCM, SaaS Software and/or employee benefits industry or equivalent relevant work experience
  • Demonstrated understanding of Benefits Technology, HR/Benefits/Payroll methodologies and supporting systems
  • Baseline understanding of HRIS processes and HR personnel responsibilities.
  • Able to demonstrate Unum's solutions value proposition as it relates to HR/Payroll/Benefits through a deep understanding of our products and services
  • Comfortable presenting/demoing a technical solution to both C-Level executives
