RoleThe classroom teacher role consists of two salary ranges, which are range 1 and range 2. Classroom Teacher Range 2Range 2 classroom teachers have a crucial role in helping the school enhance student performance and educational outcomes based on the school strategic plan and state-wide priorities. Their responsibilities include contributing to the development and implementation of school policies and priorities. A key aspect of their work involves building the knowledge base of the staff within the school about student learning and high-quality instruction. Range 2 classroom teachers are expected to:
  • Have the necessary content knowledge and pedagogical practice to meet the diverse needs of all students.
  • Model exemplary classroom practice and mentor other teachers to engage in critical reflection of their practice.
  • Provide expert advice on content, processes, and strategies for enhancing professional learning.
  • Supervise and train student teachers.
  • Assist staff in utilizing student data to improve teaching approaches and achieve targets related to enhancing student learning outcomes.
Classroom Teacher Range 1At Range 1, the primary focus is on developing skills and competencies to become an effective classroom practitioner with support and guidance from teachers at higher levels. Range 1 teachers are responsible for teaching a range of students/classes, ensuring the effective delivery of programs. They also participate in the development and implementation of school policies and programs, focusing on classroom management, subject content, and teaching practice. Responsibilities of a Range 1 classroom teacher may include:
  • Direct teaching of groups of students and individuals.
  • Contributing to the development, implementation, and evaluation of a curriculum area within the school.
  • Undertaking other teaching-related and organizational duties as assigned.
  • Participating in various activities like parent/teacher meetings, staff meetings, camps, and excursions.
  • Engaging in non-teaching supervisory duties.
