JOB SUMMARY

This posting will be used to fill a current vacancy in the Parking Services Division of the Public Transportation and Parking Department within the City of Oklahoma City and is under the direction of an immediate supervisor. However, an eligibility list will be established or supplemented for filling future vacancies in the department, per provisions of the AFSCME collective bargaining agreement. Full performance in this classification requires a working knowledge of Parking Meter Technician tasks and established policies and procedures. Essential job functions include: testing parking dispensing systems for proper operation; collecting meter monies following an assigned route on foot or by operating a vehicle; making daily deposits of collected parking dispensing systems monies to designated bank; completing various written forms, such as, deposit slips, work reports; transaction log, etc.; and performing general meter maintenance tasks and intricate repairs to parking dispensing systems mechanisms and housing. Additional duties include, but are not limited to assisting in the training of less experienced workers; maintaining meter shop records; and performing other related tasks in both the field and shop. This job requires mechanical aptitude, the ability to use precision hand tools and follow well-defined procedures and repair techniques. The duties are frequently performed independently with the employee receiving general instructions in verbal and written form. The Parking Meter Technician may act as a lead worker while in the field and may assume responsibility for supervising shop activities in the supervisor's absence.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Strength enough to lift, push, pull, or carry objects weighing up to 100 pounds, such as money carts filled with coins, jackhammers, cement bags, etc.

Stamina enough to exert oneself physically throughout the workday.

Flexibility enough to bend, twist and reach out to perform meter installation and repair tasks.

Mobility enough to continuously move oneself from place to place.

Arm-hand steadiness, and manual and finger dexterity enough to disassemble, repair and service, and reassemble parking meters.

Near vision enough to work on fine wires and small parts found inside meters and to read diagrams and small print in repair manuals, on part boxes, etc.

Visual color discrimination enough to determine meter service requirements.

Eye-hand coordination.

Note: An eligibility list will be established from this posting consisting of applicants who receive a score of 70 percent or better.
