Job Description

MAKE AN IMPACT IN THE GREAT OUTDOORS

The Cascade Pacific Council hires over 250 camp staff members yearly to work at our 4 resident camps, bringing adventure to Scouts safely. Positions available include program directors, office staff, sales staff, cooks, and maintenance personnel. Whether you're new to scouting or a seasoned scouter, all are encouraged to apply if they share the same sense of fun and learning our campers seek in the outdoors. Each staff member has the ability to positively influence a scout's life, and summer camp is the perfect place to make that happen.

Mission Statement:
"The Boy Scouts of America's mission is to prepare young individuals to make ethical choices throughout their lives by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law."

We achieve this at our camps by seeking motivated and enthusiastic individuals in the community who wish to impact young people's lives through game instruction, leadership development, and enjoyment.

HIRING INFORMATION

Qualifications

  • Full-season availability preferred
  • Some outdoor camping experience required
  • Passion for working with youth
  • Enjoys outdoor work

General Responsibilities: Resident Camp Staff (General)

  • Create a fun, welcoming, and safe environment for campers and visitors
  • Act as a positive role model for campers
  • Collaborate with other staff members in various activities and programs
  • Assist campers in activities as necessary
  • Participate in pre-camp training week
  • Follow Scout Oath and Law principles
  • Adhere to BSA Youth Protection, Guide to Safe Scouting, and BSA Safety policies

Requirements:

  • Minimum age of 16 when camp starts (volunteer as a Staff-in-Training if 15+)
  • Register as a member of the Boy Scouts of America if hired
  • Background check required for applicants over 18
  • Specialized position training available
  • Submit a completed application
  • Provide 2 non-relative references
  • Valid First Aid/CPR/AED certification preferred
  • Some positions need National Camp School certifications

Resident Camp Information

  • Cub Scout Resident Camps cater to children aged 6-10 who partake in resident camp activities with their local Scouting group. These camps run for three days each session and include:
  • Camp Baldwin (for 9-10-year-olds, east of Mt. Hood)
  • Butte Creek Scout Ranch (operates 3-night/4-day sessions twice a week)
  • Scouts BSA Resident Camps accommodate Scouts BSA participants who join resident camps with their local group. These week-long programs feature:
  • Camp Baldwin (Mt. Hood)
  • Camp Meriwether (Oregon Coast)
  • Camp Pioneer (Mt. Jefferson)
