Position Overview:
- Acts as Service Officer for the Field Services Division within the IL Department of Veterans' Affairs
- Advocates for applicable benefits for veterans, retirees, spouses, and dependents
- Serves as a liaison with various agencies to establish veteran's entitlements to benefits and services
- Represents the IL Department of Veterans' Affairs at community affairs and public events
- Provides training for newly appointed Veterans' Service Officers
- Performs other assigned duties within the specified scope of responsibilities

Minimum Qualifications:
Two years of college with emphasis in business or public administration and an honorable discharge from the Armed Forces of the United States during hostilities.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Extensive knowledge of veterans' programs and operating policies
- Understanding of benefits and services available to veterans and their families
- Office management skills and techniques
- Experience in managing an office efficiently to provide services to military personnel and veterans
- Skills in establishing and maintaining effective relationships with staff and the community
- Capable of preparing and presenting speeches on veterans' issues
- Able to explain federal and state veterans' legislation to the public
- Experience in analyzing service records and interpreting benefit entitlements
- Proficient in making informed decisions related to veterans' benefits

Conditions of Employment:
- Background check and drug screen required
- Compliance with agency vaccine/health-related policies
- Obtain TRIP of Claims certification within probationary period
- Maintain U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Accreditation
- Attend relevant seminars, conferences, and training sessions for professional development
- Valid driver's license for travel in the performance of duties
- Overtime may be required as part of the employment conditions

Work Hours: 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Monday - Friday
