Stanford Continuing Studies is seeking a Financial Analyst to join the Continuing Studies’ Dean’s Office finance team. Reporting to the Finance Manager for CSP and Summer Session, the Financial Analyst has broad responsibility for the financial functions of the Continuing Studies Program (CSP) as well as the Distinguished Careers Institute (DCI). In close collaboration with department partners, the position oversees each program’s annual operating budgets, financial forecasting, and reporting, and manages the full range of day-to-day financial activities for the programs. This is an ideal job for a financial professional with outstanding communication, analytical and relationship building skills who thrives within a collaborative environment. **Note the following position will be based on Stanford’s main campus. The Financial Analyst role is eligible for consideration of a flexible hybrid work arrangement, subject to operational need. Your responsibilities include:
  • Independently lead the annual budget processes for CSP and DCI, working in partnership with key department colleagues, program leadership, and members of the finance team to ensure that budget submissions are timely, accurate, and meaningful.Develop and prepare financial reports for management, ranging from high level to detailed, including variance and trend analysis, ad hoc decision support analysis & forecasting, consolidated budget reporting and budget narration/presentations, etc.Manage & oversee all CSP and DCI financial activities such as purchasing, revenue collection, account reconciliation, etc., including but not limited to: Working in close partnership with program managers to design, implement, and continually re-evaluate department financial practices to ensure compliance with University policy and support of operational goals; Developing and maintaining complex monthly reporting processes which identify discrepancies from a multi-system reconciliation and identify areas of risk.Oversee period-end close processes, such as managing year-end accruals, fund transfers, timely posting of transactions and reporting, requiring the consolidation of data from multiple sources.Work closely with department staff in financial strategic thinking, proactively raise opportunities, areas for improvement, etc. Serve as a key partner to members of leadership to support financial strategy, work closely with functional leads to ensure strong programmatic budget management, train new staff on financial policies & administration, etc.Act as a liaison with the central university offices involved in financial management (e.g., Global Business Services, Office of the Treasurer, and Financial Analysis & Information Reporting), representing the unit to central audiences and responding to requests.Directly supervise CSP’s Administrative Associate 3 as well as manage financial training & mentorship for all department staff members with financial responsibilities.

In addition, preferred requirements include:
  • Excellent analytical, conceptual, and organizational skills and ability to manage and manipulate large data sets; thorough knowledge of financial modeling, variance analysis, and common practices used for financial forecasting, ideally in an academic setting.Strong consulting and partnering skills, including the ability to lead and influence employees at all levels, and work successfully with unit/program directors.Demonstrated success in performing meticulous, high quality and compliant work.Ability to interpret complex research and fiscal policies, assimilate information from a wide range of resources and act as a mentor and resource to others.
The expected pay range for this position is $79,000 to $118,000 per annum. Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location and external market pay for comparable jobs.
