Responsibilities and Duties

Responsibilities for the Title IX & Civil Rights Investigator include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Manages assigned cases by the AVP of Equity and Compliance, in addition to the Title IX Coordinator & Civil Rights Investigator (in consultation with the AVP of Equity and Compliance) to ensure the prompt timing (e.g., 60-to-90 calendar days) of completing the investigation process
  • Provides outreach and accommodations for inquiries relating to hate/bias, discrimination, sexual harassment, other sexual misconduct, and Title IX
  • Conducts prompt, reliable, impartial, and thorough investigations, ensuring compliance with all applicable laws; ensures a well-documented investigation process, analyzing information and working with the appropriate University offices during the course of investigations; maintains accurate and thorough investigatory files and reports; and prepares comprehensive reports of investigation findings of fact and recommendation(s).
  • Utilizes TU’s Symplicity database (e.g., GME) to maintain data, upload documents, and communicate information regarding cases
  • Continuously maintains current information regarding federal and state laws and regulations, as well as integrates best practices in investigations; maintains current information relating to employment policies and procedures for faculty and staff under Civil Rights/Title IX; and ensures that university-related information is readily available on all aspects of hate/bias, discrimination, sexual harassment, other sexual misconduct, and Title IX.

Telework may be available for this position up to two days per week following the completion of 90 days of service in good standing.



Qualifications and Skills

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and two years of experience leading investigations
  • Knowledge of federal and state laws pertaining to federal/state compliance, discriminatory practices, sexual misconduct, Violence Against Women Act (VAWA), Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, and other practices that violate Title IX and Section 504/ADA, for example
  • Ability to manage a caseload of hate/bias, discrimination, sexual harassment, other sexual misconduct, and Title IX matters in a prompt, reliable, impartial, and thorough remedy
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with members of the campus community
  • Ability to manage multiple projects
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and collaboratively in a diverse setting
  • Demonstrated success in addressing sensitive, emotionally charged conversations and crises
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and strong written and oral communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Awareness of current trends and best practices in hate/bias, discrimination, sexual harassment, other sexual misconduct, and Title IX, for example

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or other post-graduate degree (e.g., PhD, EdD, JD) in Human Resources, Higher Education, or a related field
  • Experience leading investigations involving sexual misconduct or discrimination
  • Experience working with college students and college administrators
