Southwire Job Description

Job Summary/Objective:
In support of Culture of Zero, the Environmental Manager will manage Environmental activities and support Southwire Operations globally.  The incumbent will act as a team member to Operations Senior Staff, Corporate EHS Staff, and ensure Environmental is considered in all appropriate business activities. The incumbent will lead the efforts to manage an effective Environmental Management System to address risks associated with the business.  In addition, support the overall Corporate Environmental strategies and initiatives across all environmental media (air/water/waste) to comply with environmental regulations, permit requirements, reporting, internal policies, and standards across the organization. In addition, the incumbent will support overall Corporate Sustainability strategies (carbon emissions, energy consumption, water minimization, and waste minimization).

Key Responsibilities:

1.    Create synergy and support the Culture of Zero culture.  Develop and manage effective Environmental management strategies and provide recommendations and technical expertise on regulatory compliance.
2.    Monitor regulatory and ISO compliance and implement corrective actions where needed.
3.    Lead assessments of capital projects. This includes managing environmental permitting strategies, interaction with the customer and regulatory authorities as required, negotiating, and communicating permit requirements, and the creation of appropriate permit and project documentation.
4.    Communicate permit changes and impact on plant operations, existing permits, etc., and manage compliance tasks as required.
5.    Develop, maintain, and improve environmental compliance tools, monitoring, sampling, and testing programs to demonstrate compliance with regulatory and permit limits for assigned facilities.  Respond to agency requests and prepare and or submit timely reports to informational requests. 
6.    Direct and train facility personnel in environmental compliance permits and regulatory requirements, including any tools for compliance.
7.    Manage and assist in preparing and submitting environmental reports to local, state, and federal agencies for assigned facilities. 
8.    Provide effective communication and liaison support between Team Members, facility management, and federal, state, & local regulatory agencies. Meet regulatory agencies and internal company audit personnel during environmental audit/inspection visits to provide the requested info, documentation, responses, etc. that demonstrate a compliant position.
9.    Drive and execute a comprehensive multi-year strategy to continue the company’s drive toward zero environmental incidents.  The strategy focuses on both technical systems/standards, leadership, behavioral, and cultural aspects.
10.    Lead and facilitate incident investigations including root cause analysis for corrective actions.  Collaborate with Lean to assist personnel on environmental investigations and proper documentation.

Specialized Degree: Engineering, Environmental, Risk Management, Science or Related
Years of Experience: 14
Field of Expertise: Engineering, Sustainability, Project Management
Other Preferred Skills, Licenses, & Certificates: Functional with Microsoft Office, SAP
