JOB SUMMARY

The Coordinator Sterile Processing will coordinate departmental quality projects and audits with Director. Maintain and support the electronic instrument tracking system. Monitor efficiency of efforts and prepare and present quarterly reports. Attends meetings and shares information with staff and management team. Participate in regulatory compliance and direct liaison with Infection prevention and quality to meet interpersonal goals. This position is responsible for implementing the department’s continuous improvement program. Areas of emphasis include but are not limited to delivery of technical training to instrument techs and SPD Techs, performance and documentation of quality assurance audits, TJC and AAMI compliance, orientation of newly hired instrument techs, promoting certification activities throughout the department, and supporting process improvement initiatives.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

· All duties inclusive of Sterile Processing Tech.

· Participates in the development of other staff members.

· Aids in maintaining and training staff on instrument tracking system.

· Aids in maintaining tray listings, adding and removing instrumentation, creating new trays.

· Participates in the development and implementation of the Quality Management Plan in accordance with the requirements of all regulatory bodies.

· Audits and processes continuously and validate all documentation and results to ensure regulatory compliance as well as best practices, competency assessment and documentation.

· Investigates and provides leadership with recommendations for performance and quality improvement.

· Maintains continued process improvement in the field of Central Sterile Processing operations and equipment through education, literature and seminars.

· Working closely with the department manager, oversees quality and infection control initiatives for Sterile Processing and maintains the quality assurance and performance standards of the department.

· Sets the tone for quality processes and services to deliver safe product to hospital customers.

· Conducts internal audits of processes, systems and procedures.

· Conducts quality assurance checks as identified by department leadership.

· Ensures that staff performs routine tasks in a timely manner according to established Standard Operating Procedures through direct observation and review.

· Participate in cross-functional teams to identify effective corrective and preventive actions to improve Lean process quality. Aids in the department to ensure set quality, accuracy, completion, etc. as needed in Sterile Processing.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

· Minimum of High School or GED required.

· Successful completion of a ORT training program or CSBDT or CRCST.

· Five (5) years sterile processing or related field experience with demonstrated knowledge of instrument sterilization techniques, Sterile Processing policies and procedures, purchasing activities, and surgical procedures.

· Demonstrated ability to set priorities with evidence of completion.

· National certification through IAHCSSM or CBSPD.

· Knowledge of medical terminology and surgical case types in all specialties.

· Basic computer knowledge: ability to operate a PC, create/save/print documents, input data.
