As an airline, safety is our most important principle. And our Corporate Safety team is responsible for making sure safety is top of mind in every action we take. From conducting flight safety investigations and educating pilots on potential safety threats to implementing medical programs and helping prevent employee injuries, our team is instrumental in running a safe and successful airline for our customers and employees.

Key Responsibilities:

The Sr. Manager FOQA/MOQA is responsible for the FOQA and MOQA programs in accordance with the requirements defined in the United Pilot Agreement. Represents United as the primary contact for the FOQA and MOQA programs in industry related meetings and is the main point of contact to operational divisions within United. Maintains oversight of the day-to-day activities of the aviation operational data captured from all FOQA and MOQA equipped fleets to forecast risk and promote aviation safety. Responsible for leading the program strategy to identify risks and trends in the data and inform partners of findings. The Sr. Manager will direct activities of the FOQA MOQA analysts and ensure event review reporting to senior management, industry, and labor groups.

  • Responsible for leading team activities to ensure FOQA deliverables are met in accordance with divisional expectations including but not limited to: quarterly FOQA hot items, avionics engineering support and troubleshooting for data reporting, analyze and resolve download failures, represent FOQA at assigned meetings such as data analysis groups, complete FOQA Quarterly Enhancement Report, etc
  • Expected to lead collaboration with key partners such as Flight Standards and Training to ensure the analysis of the data is shared within United Pilot Agreement requirements to enhance safety within the operation
  • Coordinate with various partners as needed to support the FOQA/MOQA program
  • Be open to innovative ideas and advanced analytics to elevate FOQA program
  • Expected to raise operational vulnerabilities that exhibit areas of risk in the FOQA data
  • Hold regular one on one meetings with team members and facilitate their development and leadership capabilities so they can fulfill their career goals

    FOQA Responsibilities:
  • Ensure statistical criteria in conjunction with industry standards to complete in-depth risk assessment of events and safety issues
  • Review aviation operational profiles and studies to optimize and assess performance of standard operating procedures (SOP)
  • Research new event detection and trending capabilities to better communicate risk
  • Primary liaison with FOQA vendor and other air carriers conducting FOQA programs and assist the vendor and other staff specialists in development of FOQA data analysis software tools and procedures to select pertinent aviation data and organize elements into meaningful reports to support aviation safety analysis for Flight Safety Investigations, Safety Action Programs, ASIAS, flight training and special studies/requests
  • Assists with subject matter expertise for ASIAS
  • Lead regular ALPA Gatekeeper reviews and coordinate the use of FOQA data with the ALPA Exceedance Guidance Team (EGT)/Gatekeeper representatives to direct their supporting role in FOQA, validate events for crew contacts and communicate with ALPA gatekeepers
  • Develop meaningful data output from Gatekeeper crew contacts.
  • Verify the operation and data quality of the entire FOQA system (ADI) and all FOQA equipped aircraft on a 24-7 basis Troubleshoot and resolve any issues with aircraft data collection failures

    MOQA Responsibilities:
  • Liaison with AHM and TechOps analytics team in creating and refining threshold-based event definitions with the use of flight data to be dispositioned for alerting
  • Support MOQA initiatives on Aircraft Predictive Analytics Committee (APAC) for determining actionable data-driven solutions for improving component reliability
  • Ensure process and oversight of trusted agent FOQA system access is maintained and lapses are corrected as needed
  • Explore methodologies for collaborative predictive maintenance solutions within the scope of existing governance
  • Work with TechOps partners to track program wins and cost savings
  • Ensure the Aviation Safety Business Manual is updated with the current process and procedures to meet regulatory and company documentation standards
  • Expected to revise I&O plan as necessary to ensure FOQA process and procedures are aligned with current work scope
  • Represent United as the FOQA subject matter expert during FAA and industry audits (IATA, Dept. of Defense, etc.)
  • Responsible for maintaining the data request process in accordance with United Pilot Agreement requirements
  • Ensure analysts complete data request fulfillment in a timely manner and the results of data requests outputs are shared with the Safety Action Council as directed by Aviation Safety leadership
  • Ensure FOQA customers receive communication
  • Attend Industry conferences such as GE Waypoints and FAA Info Share as directed by leadership
  • Develop contacts with other FOQA enabled carriers to leverage safety partnerships within the industry for the purpose of learning and sharing standard processes that can enhance safety at United

  • Undergraduate degree in technical, safety, or aviation related field or equivalent level of work experience
  • 5+ years of experience in aviation industry
  • Aircraft performance, operational and programming knowledge, Microsoft Office, database programs
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship
  • Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification
  • Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position
