These positions are located in the French Unit, Meetings Coverage Section (MCS) of the Coverage and Media Services Branch (CMSB) in the News and Media Division (NMD) of the Department of Global Communications (DGC). The Meetings Coverage Section produces summaries and press releases, in English and French, of UN meetings. Overall guidance is provided by the Chief of Section, and direct supervision by a Senior Editor and a Senior Editorial Assistant. The positions are available for approximately two (2) to three (3) months during the main part of the General Assembly session between September and December 2024.




Responsibilities

Within delegated authority, the Editorial Assistant will be responsible for the following duties: • Proofreads and reviews meetings summaries and press releases for clarity, spelling, grammar, consistency and factual accuracy in accordance with UN editorial guidelines and terminology. • Ensures that text is formatted to UN Press style and standards. • Rotates in shifts, as needed. • Stays available for overtime and on-call assignments, depending on the needs of the office. • Performs other related work as required.

The minimum years of relevant experience is reduced to one year for candidates who possess a first-level university degree or higher. Experience in draft typing, copy editing, proofreading or related area is desirable. Experience using Office 365 (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams and SharePoint) is desirable. Experience in web publication and content management systems is desirable.




Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the posts advertised, fluency in French and English is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is desirable.




Assessment

Evaluation of qualified candidates may include a technical assessment test which may be followed by competency-based interview.
