SUMMARY

The Behavioral Health Supervisor is a Behavioral Health Clinician with demonstrated leadership skills and clinical excellence experience. The behavioral health supervisor provides regular direct clinical care while supervising behavioral health clinicians and behavioral health aides in clinics, villages, and home settings.

JOB DUTIES

  • Promote growth of Behavioral Health staff and aides in leadership, clinical excellence, patient-centered care, education, and organizational involvement to meet the identified goals and needs of the employee and organization.
  • Monitor, support, and provide teaching to clinicians and aides in their practice management to meet expectations for good patient care and ambulatory standards.
  • Responsible for needs assessment and monitoring of Behavioral Health clinicians and aide engagement in their professional practice and patient care. This includes leading regular meetings with Behavioral Health Clinicians and aides and participating in activities related to improving engagement, professional work-life balance, and work satisfaction.
  • Attend Behavioral Health Leadership meetings and cascade information to direct reports.
  • Works closely with the Behavioral Health Director, Chief Operating Officer, and Human Resources to address day-to-day site issues and ensure solid onboarding of new providers.
  • In collaboration with the Behavioral Health Director, provide annual performance reviews with input from key stakeholders.
  • In collaboration with the Behavioral Health Director and Human Resources, manage hiring, disciplinary, and dismissal processes for direct reports.
  • Provide Clinical services—including assessment, treatment planning, and intervention as relevant for the area of practice—in an outpatient setting based on the unique needs of the patient. Outpatient programs may include individual and group therapy and psychoeducational groups as indicated.
  • Act as a consultant to staff, patients, and families as appropriate for patient care.
  • Work as part of the primary treatment team as appropriate for outpatient and as part of the multi-disciplinary consult service with other healthcare programs at CRNA.
  • Provide in-depth psychological evaluations as required in the area of specialty.
  • Coordinate patient care with primary care, other specialty providers, and families via written and verbal communication.
  • Arrange for appropriate care within CRNA or through outside providers as prescribed in policies and procedures.
  • Ensure that each patient’s rights are protected and that appropriate interventions are provided based on their ability to participate, cultural concerns, and diagnostic impression.
  • Maintain progress notes and other documentation required for the client's medical record and utilization management within the timelines outlined by CRNA and the State of Alaska.
  • Participate in quality initiatives and utilization review activities as requested.
  • On an ongoing basis, strive to understand and meet the fiscal and financial parameters of practicing in the healthcare environment.

JOB DUTIES (Cont.)

  • Provide clinical supervision to behavioral trainees as appropriate based on licensure.
  • Provide educational presentations and participate in national and local conferences and professional organizations.

NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Proficient in consumer intake processes, encompassing interviews, assessments, DSM criteria, ASAM Patient Placement Criteria, and referrals.
  • Possesses knowledge of substance use and behavioral health disorders.
  • Demonstrates a strong understanding of Alaska Native culture and lifestyle, with proven experience effectively working with the Alaska Native population.
  • Familiarity with the impact of historical trauma on Alaska Native individuals.
  • Expertise and experience in program development involving trauma-informed approaches to the assessment and treatment of behavioral health disorders in children, adolescents, and adults. This includes proficiency in providing current DSM diagnoses.
  • Familiarity and experience in the fields of children's mental health, sexual abuse, FASD, and domestic violence
  • Skilled in building and maintaining interpersonal relationships, effective communication, and collaborative teamwork.
  • Knowledgeable about HIPAA regulations and adept at safeguarding client privacy.
  • Capable of evaluating and delivering effective emergency services for individuals in behavioral health crises.
  • Familiarity with Athabascan people and their culture (preferred).
  • Able to work autonomously and as part of a team.
  • Possesses strong written, analytical, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Proficient in operating a personal computer with various software programs.
  • Capable of maintaining accurate records and producing timely and precise written reports.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master's degree in Clinical Psychology, Counseling, Social Work, or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • Active Alaska state licensure as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated experience in clinical supervision and program management within a behavioral or mental health setting.
  • Knowledge of relevant laws, regulations, and accreditation standards pertaining to mental health services.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Proficiency in electronic health record systems and other clinical management software.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development, including attending workshops, seminars, and conferences in the field of mental health.
  • Demonstrated understanding of cultural competency and the ability to provide services sensitive to diverse populations' needs.
  • Ability to pass background checks and meet other employment requirements per organizational policies.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ph.D. in Social Services Field
  • Education and expertise in addressing historical, personal, developmental, and other types of trauma with Alaska Native populations

WORKING CONDITIONS

The work is generally sedentary, requiring routine walking, standing, bending, and carrying of items weighing less than 25 lbs. The majority of work is performed in an office setting with a wide variety of people with differing functions, personalities, and abilities. CRNA is a smoke-free and tobacco-free campus. It may require local travel between compact services of CRNA, which may involve exposure to extreme weather conditions. Works in an environment where the protection of client confidentiality is essential. Personal Protective Equipment will be provided when and where needed.

SPECIFICATIONS

Supervision Received:

Work will be monitored through meetings, reports, and regular communication with the immediate supervisor. General guidelines for operations are based on program requirements, conditions of grant award(s), and the general policies and procedures of CRNA.

The position will exercise supervision of assigned staff and complete required documentation, including performance evaluations, training, and general oversight through direct reports.
