Inlet Energy provides outstanding customer service to retail, commercial, and government customers in Alaska. Inlet's team of experts has the most Certified Lubrication Specialists (CLS), Oil Monitoring Analysts (OMA-1), and Machine Lubricant Analysts (MLA) in the state. Inlet Energy is based out of Anchorage with operations in Kenai, Fairbanks, and Prudhoe Bay. The inlet is also a major fuel distributor for the road system from the Kenai Peninsula to Fairbanks.

Job Summary:

The Technical Sales Engineer will serve as the primary technical resource, providing experienced advice and training on lubricant products. They will engage directly with customers to understand their lubrication needs, recommend appropriate products, and address technical inquiries or challenges. The engineer will conduct lubrication surveys and assessments at customer sites to find opportunities for product optimization and efficiency improvements.

Essential Functions:
  • Manages delivery of technical products and services to ensure customers understand the full product offering; providing onboarding, troubleshooting and upsell opportunities when applicable.
  • Provides relationship management, escalation management, and technical advisement, playing a major role in customer-facing activities and defining product direction.
  • Establishes project leadership for the customer's major business, product, or service needs.
  • Designs and develops innovative solutions to customer requirements using company products or services.
  • Works directly with customers either by telephone, electronically, or face-to-face. Evaluate all information to respond to customer requests, identifying and advancing priority issues. Serves as liaison between customers and various departments. Handles customer accounts and maintains appropriate records for customers, prospects, and competitors through CRM.
  • Evaluates their respective customer sales profitability and Share of Wallet potential.
  • Services existing accounts, acquires orders, pursues new business, and establishes new accounts by planning and prioritizing daily work schedules to call on existing or potential sales outlets and other trade factors.
  • Leverages extensive knowledge of lubricant products to improve customer profitability. Applies comprehensive technical expertise to demonstrate product benefits and secure sales.
  • Keeps management advised by submitting activity and results reports, via CRM.
  • Recommends changes in products, services, and policies by evaluating results and driving developments.
  • Resolve customer complaints by investigating problems; developing solutions; preparing reports; and making recommendations to management.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
  • Attends and represents Inlet Energy at various industry functions.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
  • Proven experience in technical sales support within the lubricants industry or reliability programs in related sectors.
  • Strong understanding of lubrication principles, product formulations, and applications across diverse industries (e.g., automotive, industrial, marine).
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey sophisticated technical information clearly and persuasively to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Demonstrated success in building and maintaining strong customer relationships.
  • Strong negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Analytical skills and proficiency in data analysis tools to support decision-making and problem-solving.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite and CRM software.
  • Familiarity with the energy industry, including knowledge of fuel distribution, logistics, or related services, is a plus.
  • A valid driver's license and ability to travel occasionally for client visits and industry events.
