UC Health is hiring a Full Time Registered Nurse (RN) Supervisor for the FLEX ICU at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center.

The RN Supervisor will support the Medical Centers' FLEX ICU, delivering high-quality care to patients based on assessed needs, established standards of care, and according to policy and procedures.

1-Tower- FLEX-ICU- 12-bed unit

The FLEX-ICU is a 12-bed unit specializing in critical care needs of patients within the first 24- 72 hours of illness requiring intensive nursing care. The major specialties treated in this ICU are Medicine, Surgical, Neurological and Cardiac and Donor Care patients. The patient population specializes in critical condition, with most patients generally stabilizing within 24-48 hours following admission. Patient care focuses on stabilizing cardio-pulmonary functioning, maintaining adequate circulatory volume and perfusion, preserving the patient's protective mechanisms and controlling pain. This short stay ICU will receive patients from ER, outside hospitals and other ICUs as needed to support hospital capacity. This unit will also support step-down level of care patients and is planned to be a hybrid of ICU/Stepdown patients.

Unit Details:

  • Brand New Unit is in the NEW Tower building
  • Flexible in type of patient- Medicine, Neuro, Cardiology, and Surgical
  • Intensive Care and stepdown level of care
  • Closed unit Critical Care Team Provider Model
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing is required
  • Minimum of two to four years of clinical nursing experience in the clinical specialty.
  • Licensed to practice in the State of Ohio

  • Supervises staff assigned to their unit or center of excellence and demonstrates the ability to coach and mentor staff.
  • Leads and implements operational improvement initiatives and assures compliance via staff coaching and mentoring.
  • Identifies needs for specific equipment and ensures adequate and properly functioning equipment and supplies are available for patient care.
  • Ensures shift practice is in compliance with state and federal medical laws (EMTALA, HIPAA, and House Bill 316).
  • Maintains hospital-wide and department-specific nursing competencies and completes annual competencies in the required time frame.
  • Collaborates with the Department Educator and/or provides orientation and educational needs identified in the department.
  • Engages staff in departmental performance improvement (PI) activities according to the department PI plan.

Provides immediate counseling for staff when specific behaviors or incidents negatively affect patient care or the general work environment.The RN Supervisor assumes the responsibility for ensuring excellent patient care is being delivered, maintaining expeditious patient flow with a focus on customer service, and supervision of nursing staff.
