SALARY: Starting at $65,000 annually

POSITION SUMMARY:
Community/Cultural Liaison will serve as a bridge from student-to-student; student-to-school; school-to-family and family-to-community. The focus is on engaging, supporting and empowering students of color, immigrant and refugee students, or students otherwise isolated, in order to increase and improve communication and cultural understanding, resolve concerns student-student, student to school, and school to family, and increase protective factors for students. Build long-term, meaningful relationships with diverse families resulting in more parent involvement and student success.

PRIMARY JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Help diverse students and their families understand and navigate the school system to achieve academic success.
2. Assist and support students and families with cultural adjustment and social emotional development.
3. Work cooperatively with school staff to support student's full development in the school system.
4. Help provide lay counseling in a variety of situations and conflicts that may arise due to cultural differences, and refer to professional staff when appropriate.
5. Act as a communication liaison between parents and schools through the use of email, phone calls, and home visits.
6. Facilitate family participation in conferences and other school and district activities. Empower families in educational experience of their child(ren).
7. Facilitate student groups and encourage leadership.
8. Assist in implementation of programs and appropriate activities that enhance student academic achievement.
9. Inform and educate district staff on issues around cultural competency, equity and inclusion.
10. Provide staff with information on community resources and the various cultures represented in their schools.
11. Represent the district in community organizations and functions. Keep district informed of community concerns.
12. Other duties as assigned.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS (EDUCATION, LICENSE, EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES):

Required:
1. Minimum of Bachelor's Degree or Equivalent Education.
2. Proven ability to work in collaboration with schools and community resources.
3. Proven ability to work respectfully and responsively with diverse populations of youth and families, community members, health and human service providers, city and county government and educators.
4. Prior experience working with culturally and ethnically diverse students and their families in an educational setting.
5. Knowledge of K-12 school system.
6. Experience working effectively with and understanding the needs of culturally and ethnically diverse populations.
7. Knowledge of issues related to cultural integration and intercultural competency.
8. Excellent oral and written communications skills, including cross cultural communication.
9. Strong interpersonal skills.
10. Multilingual skills
11. Experience developing and presenting professional workshops.
12. Available for flexible work schedule, including some evenings, weekends, and summer hours.
13. Must have reliable transportation to travel between sites as necessary.
14. Prompt, regular and reliable attendance.
15. Communicates with students, parents, co-workers, supervisors and the community in a positive and responsive way that is consistently welcoming and enhances effective work relationships.
16. Demonstrates an appreciation of diversity in all interactions and job functions
