Position Overview: Residential Security Monitor
This role involves part-time weekend shifts focused on overseeing and guiding adult male ex-offenders within a correctional residential environment and the surrounding community. The individual in this position is tasked with ensuring the safety and accountability of residents while adhering to established life safety, security, and sanitation protocols. Additionally, the role includes various administrative responsibilities and may require flexibility to assist in different programs within the Residential Reentry Division as necessary.
Available Shifts:
- Saturdays and Sundays 8am-4pm
- Saturdays and Sundays 4pm-12am
- Fridays and Saturdays 11pm-7am
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
- Be prepared for mandatory overtime across all shifts.
- Exhibit a constant state of alertness while on duty.
- Collaborate effectively with supervisors, colleagues, and external contractors.
- Work efficiently under time constraints and deadlines.
- Adapt to assignments at any facility within the Residential Reentry Division as directed.
- Supervise residents in various facility areas including living quarters, recreation, and dining.
- Guide residents in the proper use of facility resources.
- Enforce all facility regulations governing resident behavior.
- Encourage good hygiene and work habits among residents.
- Oversee and evaluate residents' completion of assigned chores.
- Regularly check all security devices and alarms.
- Conduct substance use testing as required.
- Perform routine inspections throughout the facility.
- Initiate resident counts at scheduled and unscheduled intervals.
- Conduct surveillance outside the facility.
- Document incidents and prepare necessary reports, including disciplinary actions and medical incidents.
- Follow protocols for incident reporting and notifications.
- Monitor and record medication administration.
- Issue receipts for residents managing funds for savings or payments.
- Utilize motivational strategies to encourage compliance with program expectations.
- Ensure the safety and accountability of residents and the facility.
- Participate in training sessions as required.
- Attend scheduled team meetings.
- Monitor resident activities in the community.
- Perform additional duties as assigned to fulfill job responsibilities.
- Enforce all regulations pertaining to offender supervision.
- Conduct accountability checks for residents on passes.
- Assist with the intake and orientation of new residents.
Qualifications:
Minimum Requirements:
A high school diploma or equivalent is required. Prior experience in corrections, security, or related social services is preferred. Candidates must successfully pass caregiver and background checks, a physical examination, and a drug screening prior to employment. A valid driver's license is preferred but not mandatory.
Skills and Competencies:
Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential, along with basic computer proficiency. The ability to communicate positively and effectively with both staff and residents is crucial. Candidates should possess skills in de-escalating crisis situations and demonstrate sensitivity to cultural, ethnic, and disability issues. A commitment to learning and applying evidence-based best practices in resident interactions is expected.
Work Environment:
This position is primarily conducted within an adult correctional halfway house setting, which operates continuously throughout the week.
Physical Requirements:
Candidates must be capable of climbing multiple flights of stairs and maintaining mobility throughout the facility. The role requires the ability to sit for extended periods, remain alert during shifts, and evacuate residents swiftly in emergencies. Some lifting (up to 50 lbs) may be necessary for inventory management.
