Position Overview: Residential Security Monitor

This role involves part-time weekend shifts dedicated to overseeing and guiding adult male ex-offenders in a correctional residential environment and within the community. The primary responsibility is to ensure the safety and accountability of residents while adhering to all security and sanitation protocols. This position may also include various administrative tasks and could be reassigned to different programs within the Residential Reentry Division as necessary.

Available Shifts:

  • Saturdays and Sundays 8am-4pm
  • Saturdays and Sundays 4pm-12am
  • Fridays and Saturdays 11pm-7am

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
  2. Be prepared for mandatory overtime across all shifts.
  3. Stay alert and vigilant at all times.
  4. Collaborate effectively with supervisors, colleagues, and contractors.
  5. Work efficiently under time constraints and deadlines.
  6. Flexibly operate at any facility within the Residential Reentry Division as required.
  7. Supervise residents in various areas of the facility, including living quarters and communal spaces.
  8. Guide residents in the proper use of facility resources.
  9. Enforce established house rules and regulations.
  10. Encourage residents to adopt good hygiene and work habits.
  11. Oversee and evaluate residents' completion of assigned chores.
  12. Regularly check locking mechanisms, alarms, and security devices.
  13. Conduct drug screenings and breathalyzer tests as necessary.
  14. Perform routine tours of the facility, including resident areas.
  15. Initiate counts of residents at random and scheduled intervals.
  16. Conduct surveillance checks outside the facility premises.
  17. Prepare necessary reports and documentation, including incident reports and medical records.
  18. Notify relevant parties of incidents and distribute reports as per policy.
  19. Monitor and document medication administration.
  20. Issue receipts for any funds residents provide for savings or payments.
  21. Motivate residents to meet program expectations through positive reinforcement and appropriate sanctions.
  22. Ensure the safety and accountability of residents, maintaining a secure and sanitary environment.
  23. Participate in training sessions as required.
  24. Attend scheduled staff meetings.
  25. Observe residents' activities in the community.
  26. Perform any additional duties as assigned to fulfill the role's responsibilities.
  27. Enforce all regulations pertaining to offender supervision.
  28. Conduct accountability checks for residents signed out of the facility.
  29. Assist with the intake and orientation of new residents.

Qualifications:

Minimum Requirements:

A high school diploma or equivalent is required. One year of prior experience in corrections, security, or related social services is preferred. Candidates must pass caregiver and background checks, as well as a physical examination and drug screening prior to employment. A valid driver's license is preferred but not mandatory.

Skills and Abilities:

Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential, along with basic computer proficiency. The ability to communicate positively and effectively with both staff and residents is crucial. Candidates should possess skills to de-escalate crisis situations and demonstrate sensitivity to cultural, ethnic, and disability issues. A willingness to learn and apply evidence-based best practices in all interactions with residents is expected.

Work Environment:

This position is based in an adult correctional halfway house, which operates 24/7 as the primary living environment for residents.

Physical Requirements:

Candidates must be able to navigate two to three flights of stairs and remain mobile throughout the facility. The role requires the ability to sit for extended periods, walk, and stay alert during shifts. In emergencies, candidates must be capable of evacuating residents within three minutes. Some lifting (up to 50 lbs) may be necessary for inventory management.
