Director of Stewardship, Renew Democracy Initiative
3 months ago
RDI is building a movement to renew democracy in the US and around the world through incisive commentary, thought-provoking events, direct aid to frontline communities, and cultivating unlikely alliances. We are looking for a Director of Stewardship to raise revenue to pursue the organization’s strategic goals. As the lead full-time development professional at RDI, you will be the person primarily responsible for individual and institutional donor research, gift processing, donor stewardship, and codifying RDI’s donor processes. You should also be prepared to help manage and organize fundraising (and friend-raising) events in New York, DC, and other locations. This role reports to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and will oversee the Development & Operations Associate, delegating responsibilities and managing their workload.
This role is process-heavy and will require formidable CRM management abilities as you will not only be managing this process, but also creating it in accordance with best practices. This is an exciting opportunity for a uniquely detail-oriented individual who can build our donor and stewardship systems from the ground up and maintain those systems over time. As a startup, RDI has an all-hands-on-deck mentality. A successful candidate should be able to work independently in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment. You should be comfortable taking initiative and owning your projects from start to finish.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
Spearhead Donor Operations
Define and manage RDI’s back-end donor management processes from solicitation to gift processing to stewardship. Manage RDI’s CRM, currently NGPVan EveryAction, ensuring data integrity, and consistency. Develop and codify RDI’s backend donor processes. Develop and track KPIs and quarterly and annual fundraising goals as well as the development program as a whole. Develop new opportunities for donor engagement and foundational grants. Provide reporting, metrics, and information to RDI’s accountants as needed including monthly revenue reports and documentation of accounts receivable for auditing purposes.Manage Donor Relationships
Qualify new donors and establish schedules for the cultivation and solicitation of gifts from RDI’s major gift prospects. Ultimately the goal should be to ensure that the CEO and members of the board can be more efficient and maximize the amount of time they spend engaging with supporters. Implement a stewardship program aimed at cultivating deeper ties with donors. Create and send donor correspondence, including timely acknowledgment of all gifts. Coordinate and conduct in-person and virtual meetings with donors, prospects, volunteers, and key constituencies. Support CEO’s fundraising outreach including crafting personal messages for him to send and working with the Chief of Staff to ensure efficient and regular fundraising outreach.Strategy & Organizational Growth
Work with other team members to write grant and sponsorship proposals for individuals, institutions, and corporations. Identify new, significant institutional or individual donor prospects. Come up with ideas for ways to grow the organization, increase appeal to supporters, and identify new revenue streams.Event Management
Organize and manage cultivation events and salons to engage existing RDI supporters as well as attract new donors. Develop and track fundraising KPIs and revenue goals for all events, including managing sponsorship and partnership opportunities. Manage RDI’s flagship fundraising event, the Heroes of Democracy Gala in New York City, which brings together 300 of RDI’s biggest supporters to honor those that have risked their lives for freedom.JOB REQUIREMENTS
Minimum of 7 years’ experience in a nonprofit organization in a development role or with equivalent experience. Tangible experience of having expanded and cultivated existing donor networks over time. Ability to work both independently without close oversight, but also function as a team player who will take initiative, and manage multiple tasks and projects concurrently. Concrete and functional understanding of CRMs. Excellent communication skills, both written and oral; demonstrated ability to influence and engage a wide range of donors and build long-term relationships. A driven work ethic, insatiable curiosity, and a growth mindset. Flexible and adaptable work and interpersonal style. Highly organized and focused planner with good strategic vision. Preference will be given to candidates located in Washington, DC though candidates in New York City will also be considered. Applicants should expect to come into RDI’s office in their respective city 1 to 3 days per week; however, this position can be remote for the right candidate working on Eastern Time. Ability to travel domestically is preferred. US work authorization required.BENEFITS
We offer a competitive salary of $80,000 to $110,000 depending on experience, generous benefits, flexible hours, paid time off, and unique opportunities for ongoing professional development. Benefits include a 401(k) retirement plan and a variety of nationwide medical, dental, and vision insurance options.
