Job Description:

Summary:

Barr is seeking an environmental engineer to join its Bismarck office and undertake challenging and progressive work on projects related to the investigation, evaluation, and remediation of contaminated sites. Work may include managing multidisciplinary teams; preparing technical work plans and reports; coordinating ASTM Phase I environmental site assessments; investigating contaminated soil, sediment, groundwater, and vapor intrusion; conducting remediation technology evaluations and feasibility studies; developing site management strategies, remedial design, and response action plans; and coordinating site remediation activities. Responsibilities may also include preparing cost estimates and contracting for investigation activities; development of proposals, scopes of work, and budgets; communications, meetings, and negotiations with clients and regulatory agency personnel; and overall project management.

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in environmental, civil, geological, or chemical engineering or related disciplines10 or more years of relevant work experienceRegistered Professional Engineer or ability to become registered within one yearStrong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with project team members, regulators, and clientsStrong technical and problem-solving skillsAttention to detail, accuracy, and completenessStrong computer skills, including word processing and use of spreadsheetsA flexible working style and the ability to work independently and with teams of specialists to meet client and project needsWillingness to travel and periodically adjust personal schedule to meet project needs (including up to 10% travel; project needs will vary seasonally and over time)Possession of a valid driver's license and acceptable driving recordLegal authorization to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship from Barr, now or in the future

Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree in engineering or related discipline40-hour Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response Standard (HAZWOPER) certificationProject management and leadership experience with complex projectsExperience conducting communications, meetings, and negotiations with clients and regulatory and agency personnelStaff mentoring, building client relationships, and business development

A hybrid work arrangement may be considered for this position. A hybrid work arrangement refers to splitting time worked between a Barr office and a home office. This position is based out of Barr's Bismarck, North Dakota, office.

NOTE: Some work locations may feature rough terrain typical of construction sites and may also require entering and working in facilities that include limited accessibility, moving machinery, and other conditions typical of industrial facilities. Job assignments may involve work on waste disposal sites and sites requiring cleanup of hazardous materials. An OSHA-mandated physical exam may be required. Safety training will be provided. Applicants may be asked to participate in a drug screening program at the request of specific clients.
