This position is located in the Programme Management and Support Section of United Nations Mine Action Service (UNMAS) within the Office of the Rule of Law and Security Institutions (OROLSI) in the Department of Peace Operations (DPO) in New York. The Programme Officer will report to the Chief of Programme Management and Support Section. Established in 1997, UNMAS works to eliminate the threat posed by mines, explosive remnants of war and improvised explosive devices by coordinating United Nations mine action, leading operational responses at the country level, and supporting the development of standards, policies and norms. As a specialized service of the United Nations located within the Department of Peace Operations, UNMAS operates under UN legislative mandates of both the General Assembly and the Security Council. Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the Chief of the Programme Management and Support Section, UNMAS, and within delegated authority, the incumbent is responsible for the following duties: -To lead one of the PMSS regional teams, as Team Lead, providing support for budgeting, management, and implementation of mine action programmes with UNMAS Programme Officers and field staff. -To coordinate programme management and implementation with other DPO and OROLSI components, UN departments and UN agencies, funds and programmes for the assigned team. -To act as a technical resource for UNMAS Programme Officers. -To identify resource requirements, develop cost plans and formulate deployment plans for the assigned team in consultation with Strategic Planning and Operational Support Section. -To ensure effective and efficient use of Umoja ERP by Programme staff. -To monitor and evaluate programmatic and operational effectiveness, and effects changes required for improvement for the assigned team. -To develop and maintain strategic partnerships with both Secretariat and other UN entities and agencies as well as mine action stakeholders for the assigned regions managed by the team. - To coordinate the Programme Management and Support Section periodic reports to United Nations organs and donor countries and providing PMSS inputs for UNMAS submissions to United Nations budgetary, audit and oversight entities as well as to provide senior management with talking points, briefing notes and reports. -Performs other duties as required

Experience in a mine action field programmes is desirable.




Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in English (both oral and written) is required. Knowledge of French is desirable.
