The Chief of the Optometry Section is responsible for participating in and/or managing all aspects of the Optometry Section's program. This includes clinical, administrative, academic, and research components. The incumbent manages patient care responsibilities at assigned duty stations with available staffing inclusive of other staff optometrists, fee providers, optometry residents, optometry students, nursing staff, ophthalmic technicians, opticians, and administrative staff. The incumbent works in collaboration with the Chief of Eye Care Service in the clinical and administrative functions of the eye clinic. The duties of this position are in support of the mission, goals, and objectives of the VA Portland HCS.

Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases

The Duties and Responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to the following:
Provides quality patient care to outpatients and inpatients as assigned.
Keeps informed of developments in the management and treatment of diseases and illness through continuing medical education, both formal and informal.
Successfully integrates patient care activities in Optometry Section and other patient care programs of the medical center and in the community.
Consistently demonstrates expertise in diagnosing and treating seriously ill, multi-symptomatic patients.
Revises work schedules and assignments on short notice to meet frequent, abrupt, and unpredictable changes in prescribed workloads and deadlines to meet performance targets.
Participates in multidisciplinary activities involving treatment plan and discharge of patients.
Participates as a peer reviewer when requested.
Provides other clinical services as assigned consistent with clinical privileges.
