Summary

This staff psychologist position is divided between 3 outpatient mental health programs located primarily on the Brockton campus of the VA Boston Healthcare System: The Psychosocial Rehabilitation and Recovery Center (PRRC), the Suicide Prevention (SP) Team, and the Intensive Community Integrative Recovery and Treatment (ICIRT) Outpatient programs
the psychologist makes essential contributions to a comprehensive outpatient psychosocial rehabilitation program that is designed to address recovery for individuals challenged by serious mental health conditions to assist them in reclaiming their life and connect to resources that lead to establishing or re[1]establishing a meaningful, self-determined community life. The psychologist plays a key role in addressing SP high risk Veteran needs through data monitoring, training and outreach and also conducts initial intake assessment, crisis management and individual therapy in ICIRT. The psychologist will have advanced knowledge and broad experience in the provision of evidence[1]based interventions (e.g., CBT- psychosis, behavioral activation, problem-solving interventions, motivational enhancement, psychosocial rehabilitation), and will provide education to patients, family members, and significant others. The psychologist will comply with national and local performance measures, including timely screening and documentation requirements, will participate in interdisciplinary team, service and departmental meetings, and other duties as assigned. This position will be based primarily on the Brockton campus; however, location of duties is subject to change based on Medical Center needs.

Direct Services Clinical PRRC .2 Clinical ICIRT

  • Provide a range of evidence based, clinical recovery-oriented care services for complex Veterans with serious mental health conditions thru the application of expert skill in psychosocial rehabilitation approaches including group, individual, family psychotherapy/educational programming, and community integration best practices.
  • Active promotion of a patient centered, recovery-oriented delivery model that includes safety, prompt management of issues that arise unexpectedly, crisis management, ongoing support, consultation, and supervision to non-licensed staff as assigned.
  • Initial intake assessments, individual therapy and case management specific for patients with serious mental health conditions. This role often requires negotiating and facilitating hospitalization and managing acute safety concerns with a high degree of independence.
  • Collaboration with psychiatric prescribers to promote patient-centered treatment and facilitate open communication about medication treatment and referrals
Administrative Suicide Prevention Coordinator
  • Assist with data monitoring / tracking for quality improvement projects utilizing the various dashboards related to Suicide Prevention.
  • Provide training and education for staff on effective strategies for managing and treating Veterans at high risk for suicide.
  • Provide outreach to Veterans at high risk who are not yet receiving VA care through coordination with community mental health services
