Duties

The Staff Psychologist position is a full-time position under the Mental Health Service Line (MHSL) and located in the Homeless Domiciliary Program on the grounds of the VA Boston Healthcare System (VABHS), Brockton campus. The Domiciliary is a Mental Health Residential Rehabilitation Program (MH RRTP) that is dedicated to the treatment of Veterans who are homeless and have substance use and psychiatric co-morbidities as well as other social problems.

Direct Service Provision
a. Screens new referrals and makes recommendations regarding admission, serves as liaison to inpatient and outpatient referring providers, follows up with Veterans, and attends Integrated Screening Calls with other residential programs.
b. Provides diagnostic assessments based on knowledge of DSM criteria, and makes recommendations for care based on thorough knowledge of mental health conditions.
c. Provides a full range of psychotherapeutic interventions in the Domiciliary Program, including individual and group psychotherapy. Selects and provides the most appropriate psychotherapeutic techniques in providing high quality care, including evidence-based care for substance use disorders, adjustment disorders, mood disorders, anxiety and trauma related disorders, and serious mental illnesses, as well as personality disorders.
d. Provides consultation and psycho-education to other medical and mental health providers, community agencies, and Veterans' family members and social supports, as indicated.
e. Attends interdisciplinary treatment team meetings in the Domiciliary Program, provides recommendations for Veterans under their care, and assists in coordinating mental health care with other services provided within and outside the program.
f. May serve as a treatment team coordinator for an interdisciplinary team of providers and be responsible for overseeing treatment and discharge planning for a caseload of patients assigned to the team.
g. Contributes to community clinical service activities in Mental Health (e.g., urgent care, police evaluations, compensation and pension evaluations), as requested.
h. Provides clinical supervision to psychology pre-doctoral interns and postdoctoral fellows, assuming responsibility as the LIP for supervised cases.
i. Provides consultation and training for licensed and non-licensed staff in the Domiciliary Program on evidence-based practices.
j. Works in compliance with local and national performance measures.
k. Is responsible for timely completion of all clinical charting and documentation required by local and national guidelines.
2. Clinical Administrative Activities
a. Provides oversight of the Consultation Service and Admissions Steering Committee for the Homeless Domiciliary.
b. Completes progress notes and reports, including comprehensive admission assessments, treatment plans and updates, preparation of discharge summaries.
c. Assists program in preparing for accreditation and other regulatory reviews.
d. Keeps informed regarding treatment and outcome research development in the areas of substance use and psychiatric disorders, psychosocial rehabilitation, and related fields.
e. Attends local accreditation and substance abuse conference calls, and national MH RRTP and Domiciliary calls.
f. May sit on local training committees for psychology.

Academic/Teaching/Training (10% effort)

1. May hold a faculty appointment at Boston University School of Medicine or Harvard University School of Medicine.
2. In addition to providing clinical supervision, participates in the broader education of psychology interns and fellows.
3. Provides interdisciplinary supervision to psychiatry residents.
4. Provides ongoing education and training to Domiciliary staff about accreditation requirements/standards, and new policies and procedures for residential care.

B. Clinical Program Development and Evaluation (10%)

1. Assists with the development and implementation of new and existing psychological treatments in a manner that will optimize clinical care in the Domiciliary.
2. Participates in program evaluation processes in the Domiciliary including collecting and analyzing data on program effectiveness, access, efficiency, and satisfaction, contributes to design and implementation of
quality improvement projects, and contributes to monitoring of information related to other required performance measures.

C. Research (5% effort)

1. May design and implement research projects in collaboration with other psychologists in VA Boston Healthcare System
2. As applicable, may present outcome data and research results at VA and regional or national scientific or professional meetings.
