The Role

This is a co-op internship opportunity in Cambridge, MA from January 21, 2025 June 20, 2025. Applicants must be available for the entire duration of the internship. Start date will be January 21, 2025.

Moderna is seeking a co-op who will work at the Cambridge, MA site. The individual will focus on the chemical biology of nucleic acids and RNA biochemistry to develop Modernas next generation building blocks for mRNA medicines. She/he will be mentored by a Sr. Scientist and will design experiments, develop the appropriate methods, and perform in vitro and cell-based assays to study mRNA. The individual will work with Scientists within the Platform Research organization and across the Moderna ecosystem.

Heres What Youll Do

Design experiments to ask specific questions about the chemical biology of RNA

Maintain and perform experiments with various mammalian cell lines

Develop and execute qPCR, click chemistry protocols, and other cell-based or in vitro assays

Analyze biochemical transformations of RNA by LC-MS

Record and communicate findings to a broader company audience

Present results at internal meetings

Heres What Youll Need (Minimum Qualifications)

Currently enrolled sophomore, junior, or senior pursuing a degree in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Biomedical Engineering, or related science

Successfully completed general and organic chemistry

Preferred prior completion of biochemistry courses

Prior lab experience preferred, including mammalian cell culture

The candidate must be highly organized and possess a great attention to detail

Excellent interpersonal and collaborative skills, and the ability to work independently and effectively in a highly dynamic environment

Knowledge of LC-MS analysis is a plus but not required

GPA of 3.5 on a 4 scale or equivalent

Demonstrated ability to work both independently as well as the ability to contribute to high performing teams.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
