Plans, conducts, oversees, and evaluates human-centered design (HCD) work on health information systems (HIS), based on HFE and cognitive engineering (CE) techniques.
Applies and adapts appropriate methods to unique study objectives to achieve value for customers, exploring and publishing new methods and techniques for complex problems.
Analyzes workflow and identifies areas for HIS and system redesign support, sets goals and objectives, formulates, and implements a strategic vision, and manage usability activities.
Gathers information on use and organizational needs, establish goals for virtual (remote), laboratory, and in-situ studies and experiments to develop actionable user and organizational assessments.
Applies ethnographic, observational, and diary study methods to gather information on user needs and goals from field studies, usability studies, and site visits to assist in developing actionable HIS and work system requirements.
Improves interfaces and work systems for products and services to be useful, understandable, usable, error-tolerant, and effective.
Plans and conducts studies directed at reducing errors and inefficiencies due to cognitive overload and human-computer interaction (HCI) failures.
Leads in the development of scenarios, personas, journey maps, use cases, and job/user stories.
Identifies system design problems that contribute to human errors and then identify alternative designs, systems, and processes based on HFE principles to mitigate errors/inefficiencies.
Consults with project teams to understand business and design goals, user characteristics, and opportunities to select appropriate assessment technology.
Consults with business leads, user-interface (UI) designers, and other team members to identify and conduct usability studies and assessment, including formative and summative usability tests heuristic evaluations, and cognitive walkthroughs.
Leads, manages, monitors, controls and executes all aspects of a study; defines test goals, recruit and screen participants, establish test plans and scripts, conduct assessments, perform and summarize data analysis, create reports, communicate and present findings, and make design and functionality recommendations to improve performance and system reliability.
Leads the development, presentation/publication of posters, session materials, panels, articles, etc. for various professional channels to ensure transparency, knowledge exchange, and optimization of lessons on content to support national healthcare system.
Provides consultation to leadership, executives, contractors, business owners, staff and team members.
Performs other related duties as necessary.

Work Schedule:
Monday-Friday, 8:00am - 12:30pm




NOTE:
This is a part-time position (20 hours/week). The salary listed represents full-time employment and will be pro-rated based on the actual number of hours worked each pay-period. Likewise, benefits and time-off accrual will also be prorated and based on your part-time work schedule.




Telework:
VA supports the use of telework as a way to help attract and retain talented individuals in public service, increase worker productivity, and better prepare the agency to operate during emergencies. This position may be authorized for telework. Telework eligibility will be discussed during the interview process.
