Native Renewables Inc. is a Native/Indigenous led not-for-profit organization (501c3) incorporated in 2020 (founded in 2015) to promote the use of off-grid solar photovoltaic (PV) systems to address the urgent energy needs for remote households and businesses on the Navajo Nation. Our mission is to grow Indigenous-led solar power knowledge and solutions with Hopi and Diné (Navajo) families and communities. Our headquarters is located in Flagstaff, AZ. The Opportunity

The project manager will manage Department of Energy (DOE) and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) grants. This includes ownership of grant management and deliverables such as: managing project budgets, timeline & deliverable management, reporting, technical writing, contributing to new grant proposals, and presenting work as needed. The project manager may manage one staff member. The role will be hybrid, with a monthly requirement to be in-office in Flagstaff, AZ.

Primary Responsibilities

Grant Management & Reporting- 70%

  • Manage and ensure compliance for two large grants received from EPA and DOE
  • Keep up to date and informed with overarching grant requirements and changes as well as legal requirements to ensure grant compliance
  • Manage project budgets, including monitoring expenditures, working hours allocated to the grant, and ensuring resources are utilized effectively
  • Maintain, update, and implement the Project Management Plan
  • Manage and adhere to project timelines, track project deadlines on behalf of the team
  • Notify the project PI immediately of potential issues or delays in order to share with the sponsor
  • Submit project work in a timely manner, answering questions as they arise, and communicating project updates
  • Produce technical writing for grant deliverables.
  • Draft and submit federal reports to grant holders as well as internal team members to document progress
  • Contribute to the development of new grant proposals including writing, and timeline buildout
  • Travel as needed for grant deliverables
  • Evaluate whether grant requirements are fulfilled and make adjustments to keep projects on track as needed

Communication & Team Management - 20%

  • Manage and supervise grant compliance staff to ensure grant compliance
  • Bring team together with regular check-ins to ensure work is organized and on track
  • Collaborate with team as well as external partners to facilitate project coordination and knowledge sharing
  • Provide proposals for process improvement as we develop a more robust grants program at Native Renewables
Organizational Priorities - 10%
  • Attending and contribute to staff meetings and retreats
  • Contribute to project planning and organizational strategy development 
  • Assist with other business operations and projects as assigned  

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required, Master’s degree preferred. 
  • Minimum of 3 years experience in grant management, preferably with a focus on DOE and/or EPA grants
  • Minimum 3 years experience in project management
  • Experience using a project management system
  • Familiarity with WBS (Work Breakdown Structure) and IPS (Integrated Project Schedule) 
  • Strong understanding of federal grant regulations and compliance requirements, including those specific to DOE and EPA.
  • Proven track record of successfully managing complex projects including developing plans and timelines/Gantt charts, managing budgets, and coordinating teams
  • Reliable working cell phone and wi-fi
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate to diverse audiences, both orally and in writing
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and collaborate effectively in a hybrid setting

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with government agencies and/or nonprofit organizations
  • Experience working in or with tribal communities

Benefits

  • Per Diem with hotel costs covered for all overnight travel
  • Paid time off, sick leave. Accrual begins after completion of a 90 day probationary period.
