The School of Art in the Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts at Arizona State University
seeks a full-time 9-month (academic year) tenure-track Assistant Professor of Fashion with an emphasis on new frontiers in fashion practice in any of the following areas design, merchandising, product development, or fashion studies beginning August, 2024. This position includes research, undergraduate teaching, and service responsibilities on the Los Angeles campus. The salary range for this position is $75,000 to $95,000.

The Bachelor of Arts degree in Fashion at ASU FIDM prepares students to excel across a wide range of fashion industry professions. Many of our graduates are admitted to prestigious graduate programs internationally. The ASU Fashion program is a dynamic center for the study of fashion futures with a rich and diverse curriculum. Faculty members emphasize critical concepts in their teaching including a close study in one of the following fashion design, product development, merchandising, or fashion studies. We explore fashion in cultural, economic, social and political contexts and the relationship of fashion to other disciplines. The Los Angeles campus is positioned in the Fashion District and is rich with cultural and industry organizations with which ASU FIDM has established robust partnerships.
ASU FIDM seeks a candidate with a rich and varied skill set in the field of Fashion. The successful candidate is expected to pursue an active research agenda in leading fashion industry issues focused on new frontiers in fashion practice in any of the following areas design, merchandising, product development, or fashion studies. We seek a candidate who will contribute to a dynamic and growing program. The successful candidate must demonstrate excellence in teaching with the ability to develop and instruct a variety of in-person, hybrid, and online course offerings. The successful candidate will teach and mentor undergraduate students based on department needs including developing new courses related to their area of expertise. Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
● PhD, MFA or appropriate terminal degree with coursework in fashion or a relevant field
● Demonstrated potential to achieve national and/or international recognition in cutting edge scholarly research and/or creative work
● Demonstrated excellence in teaching with experience in higher education
Desired Qualifications:
● Demonstrated ability to teach in-person and online upper and lower division undergraduate courses in fashion using innovative pedagogy
● Demonstrated experience working collaboratively with peers, colleagues, and professionals in academic settings, the fashion industry and/or the surrounding community
● Knowledge of the innovations and new directions in the fashion industry including trends and current issues
● Research that engages multiple paradigms and enhances inclusive excellence
● Evidence of sustained professional activity in fashion
