Marine Machinery Mechanic, WG-5334-10

The position is responsible for leading and performing major overhaul and/or repairs on all types of machinery and mechanical equipment board Coast Guard vessels and stations used in support of Coast Guard missions.
Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include:
Troubleshooting, repairing, overhauling, rebuilding, altering, adjusting, testing, and installing all types of gasoline and/or marine diesel combustion engines, marine equipment and systems.
Determining the type and extent of repairs needed, work sequence, and the parts, tools and materials necessary to accomplish the repair with occasional spot checks during progress. Inspect, repair, install and troubleshoots shafts, propellers, rudders, cutlass bearings, struts, gauges, pumps, etc.
Referring to blueprints, diagnostic data, and technical manuals when locating and correcting defects. Follows clearance and adjustments specifications found in technical manuals, MFG instruction manuals, blueprints, schematics, and engineering change orders.
Planning the sequence of repair tasks, selecting and safely using the proper tools, devices, and equipment. Complies with appropriate specifications and instructions in manuals, regulations and guides, so that clearances, fittings, adjustments and settings are precise and made within designated clearances and tolerances.
Using precision test and measuring instruments such as Alignment telescopes and lasers, levels, feeler gauges, tachometers and calipers, height gauges, depth gauges, venires, dial indicators and micrometers to repair, adjust and test shipboard equipment and machinery such as cargo handling machinery, and firefighting equipment.
