Job Summary

The Marine Repair Mechanic is a skilled manufacturing position responsible for the repair and maintenance of aluminum and fiberglass boats for the USCG and Navy, as well as other government and commercial customers. This position requires a strong mechanical background and familiarity with a wide variety of tools used in the assembly process.

Key Responsibilities
  • Electrical Systems Installation and Maintenance: Install, maintain, and troubleshoot advanced 12-volt/110 electrical systems, including lighting, electronics, pumps, and washdown systems.
  • Hydraulic Steering Systems Installation and Maintenance: Install and service hydraulic steering systems and controls, including installation of hydraulic systems and pumps for various onboard vessel features.
  • Hardware Installation and Layout: Layout and install hardware from bow to stern on new blank hulls and superstructures, including all equipment and systems found on small craft under 40 feet.
  • Wiring Schematics and Troubleshooting: Read and create accurate wiring schematics and diagnose and repair problems in existing systems.
  • Mechanical Drive Systems Installation and Maintenance: Install, maintain, and troubleshoot mechanical drive systems.
  • Marine-Specific Component Installation and Maintenance: Install, maintain, and troubleshoot marine-specific components.
  • Quality Control and Assurance: Ensure quality and accuracy of work, report issues to supervisor or team lead, and work on troubleshooting and identifying failures and potential failures.
  • Boat Transportation and Launching: Transport boats using company-provided vehicles to pick up and deliver boats to and from client locations around the continental US, and launch and recover boats for testing and evaluation.
Required Skills and Abilities
  • Strong Attention to Detail and Accuracy: Ability to show strong attention to detail and accuracy in work.
  • Standard Build Practices Knowledge: Knowledge in standard build practices in comparable manufacturing environments.
  • Mechanical Background and Tool Familiarity: Strong mechanical background and familiarity with a wide variety of tools used in the assembly process.
  • Communication and Teamwork: Ability to follow directions and procedures under supervision, effectively communicate with supervisor and manager, and adhere to all procedures and safe work practices.
  • Mathematics and Equipment Selection: Ability to use mathematics to solve problems and determine the kind of tools and equipment needed to do a job.
  • Critical Thinking and Time Management: Ability to think critically and manage time effectively.
Qualifications
  • Education and Experience: High school degree, GED, or equivalent required; applicants with prior technician experience in the maritime industry preferred.
  • Certifications and Licenses: Ability to obtain a driver's license and have a clean driving record, ability to operate a boat and trailer towing skills, ability to obtain a state boat operators license, and ability to obtain a passport.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to work in tight spaces and awkward positions for long periods of time, conduct inside and outside work in all temperatures, and move/lift/pull/push 50 lbs.
