Development Director

Mission:

Detroit Narrative Agency (DNA) supports and develops media-based storytelling centering Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) to foster collective healing, power, and liberation.



Scope: The core duties and responsibilities of the Development Director are 1) strengthening and diversifying DNA’s fundraising program which includes grant management and institutional and individual prospecting, 2) diversifying DNA’s support base, and 3) stewarding as well as expanding DNA’s current resources and supportive communities. The Development Director will work closely with the Executive Artistic Director and DNA advisory board to ensure that DNA’s fundraising goals are met and in alignment with the mission and values of the organization. The Development Director is a strategic thinker, team player, and compelling storyteller. 

 

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with Executive Artistic Director and the Advisory Board to develop fundraising strategies and goals Develop and implement a comprehensive, aspirational yet achievable, fundraising plan in alignment with DNA’s mission, vision, values and strategy Prospect and cultivate new DNA funders, donors, and supporters while managing all stewardship efforts Represent DNA externally in partnership with the Executive Artistic Director Prepare, monitor, and manage the annual development budget Maintain and implement funding calendar activities, including cultivation and reporting Develop, plan, and execute annual fundraising and appreciation events Research, write, and submit grants  Prepare monthly, quarterly, and/or annual reports and communications as required Create and maintain effective systems and procedures to track current and prospective donors and accurately report all fundraising income Collaborate with communications team to develop regular donor communications, appeals, and marketing materials

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Passion for social justice and Detroit Communities Film and media interest and/or knowledge is a bonus Bachelor’s degree or 5+ years in development, business administration, or a related field  Experience in nonprofit fundraising with a proven track record of success in grant writing, individual giving, corporate and foundation giving, special events, and stewardship Highly proficient and experienced in grant prospecting, grant writing, and grant reporting Organized, flexible, collaborative, and self-motivated Excellent written and verbal communication skills Compelling storyteller Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, board members, and volunteers Ability to multitask and manage several time-sensitive responsibilities at once Experience with fundraising software and/or donor databases 

  Job Details and How to Apply

This role’s salary range is $70,000K-$80,000K and includes a competitive benefits package including: employer sponsored Medical, Vision, Dental, FSA, and retirement matching. Full time employees also receive a yearly tech and professional development stipend. This is a full-time position, based in Detroit, Michigan. We observe a hybrid in-person-remote work schedule.
